Former CIA Director and retired U.S. Army Gen. David Petraeus said in a new interview that Russia can still inflict destruction upon Ukraine, but Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot reverse Ukrainian gains in the four regions Moscow recently annexed.
“I think he’s literally out of moves,” Petraeus told CNBC’s Hadley Gamble.

Not so short answer - The military-industrial complex needs to grow the biz, sell more planes, tanks bombs, bullets, rockets and beans to the Pentagon, so they contribute to the reelection efforts of the neocon warmongers in both parties whom they count on to do things like, say, send $67 billion dollars of aid to the Nazi-loving Zelensky. And round and round we go. Makes that little $3 billion recently sent to the Taliban look like chump change, on top of the billions and blood already spent in that 3rd world garbage dump since 2001.

Exactly. Given their disastrous energies policies currently impacting the US Economy, the marionette's pulling Biden's strings have only escalation in their toolbox. Anything else would be an admission of their multiple failures in energy and foreign policies.
I refuse to believe a nation with an economy the size of Texas presents that much of a threat to us.
