Your Movie Didn’t Bomb Because You’re Gay, It’s Because You’re a Jerk

“You’re a homophobe, now buy my product” is not the best sales pitch in the world, but when you’ve got nothing else you go with it because when you’re as dumb as a hammer, everything is a nail. That’s a confusing and convoluted opening sentence, but I wrote it on purpose to illustrate a point – leftists hate you AND desperately want your money and can’t come to terms with that. Return the first and deny the second, leaving them to continue to wrestle with the third.

Americans are pretty good at not giving money to people who hold them in contempt, though we’re less good at denying our money to people who look at us like we’re helpless dummies incapable of taking care of ourselves. In fairness to us, we’d pretty much have to listen to zero music or watch nothing on television but old Gunsmoke reruns if we did.

Of course, I do wish people would recognize not only that someone like Bruce Springsteen thinks you’re too stupid to know what’s in your own self-interest, but also that his music really sucks.

Still, there are times when the public does see that the “artists” attempting to sell them their products hold them in absolute contempt and shun their product. The movie “Bros” is one such case.

For me, Springsteen's best work came roughly between 1982's "Nebraska" and the "Human Touch/Lucky Town" albums he put out in 1992. With "Tunnel of Love" being his peak. Speaking of "Tunnel of Love", many songs on that album eventually got covered by other artists like Emmylou Harris and Elvis Costello.

His earlier albums, while obviously much bigger sellers and more beloved of his fans, just sound kind of overwrought to me. I mean, I won't change the station when something like "Backstreets" come on but I'm definitely sick and tired of "Thunder Road", "Hungry Heart" and the other big radio hits he had during that time. And his overplayed Christmas cover of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" makes me want to run out of the room.

His live shows became way too predictable and his stage banter is so cliche and cringeworthy "Hey Cleveland, how are ya tonight! It's like zero degrees out there! You all feeling like rocking tonight or what? How about a hand for my big man Clarence! Ya know, I almost got drafted once but my old man told me he was glad I wasn't."

With this movie are the butt buddies trying to take over a new word for their perversion the way they did with “gay”?

Good question. I always thought of a “bro” as being a real man. A guy who drinks beer while playing pool in his garage with his buddies and knows how to fix things around the house. He maybe coaches his kid’s peewee football team and is a mediocre golfer.

Not some gay guy.

“I gave up on the entertainment industry some 35 years ago when they gave up on morality and decency”

Saddest of all is that they gave up because audiences want smut mixed into everything.

People watch movies for ENTERTAINMENT, not for guidance, propaganda and brain-washing.

0bama was the one who full-out pushed for Hollywood to go this way. I remember Van Johnson being appointed and talking about how they were going to use ALL media/arts to push their agenda.

Film makers just don’t get that this isn’t what audiences really want.

Bruce did one song I liked, “Brilliant Disguise”.

I’m female and I loathe rom-coms with a passion.
Stupid plots, simple communication would solve most of their problems.
Just nope.
I recently rewatched Chernobyl. That’s good drama.

But, Weaver was eventually replaced by Ken Curtis, a strong conservative. So, the series ended well.

It "bombed" because they expected it to be a hit. It was a niche picture and there was no reason to expect it to have a mass audience.

It may be true that what once would have been niche Black pictures can now become mass hits, but we certainly haven't reached that point with gay-themed films.

That said, nobody's going to want to see Billy Eichner in a romance film -- especially when people aren't going to movies anyway.

Put Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in the lead roles, and the movie might have done better at the box office.

“or watch nothing on television but old Gunsmoke reruns if we did.”

When I see Gunsmoke, I always think of the Cosby routine, where his kid tells the mom that "on Gunsmoke they are drownding little baby kittens".

"So now I'm watching Froo-Froo-Froofie The Dog."

I’ve seen gay characters and themes in movies that are funny. Scott Thompson (Kids in the Hall) has done some really funny gay-themed skits and characters. But there is really bad, banal gay-themed comedy too. And gay comedy has the extra burden that, notwithstanding what this article says, straight people don’t find a lot of gay comedy funny. Its not prejudice. Its just that comedy is based on shared life experiences and straight people don’t have the same ones as gay people. That’s just a fact.

From the "Tunnel Of Love" album. Yes, that was his best album in my opinion.

Too bad he's such an obnoxious jerk about politics or I'd be more of a fan. He certainly does have a talent for songwriting.

I never cared much for Springsteen but (looking back) it seems that the guys in the bands I played in sure did.

The Cadillac song had a regular spot on our setlist. I hated it, but I performed it and really hammed it up. Why? Because girls loved it and would immediately stream out onto the dance floor when we would play the opening riff - you know, the one that sounds like Peter Gun (as a matter of fact I would often launch into Peter Gun as a subtle protest). Since dancing girls meant guys buying drinks and guys buying drinks meant happy bar owners, I did all I could to get them and keep them dancing!

We also did (on occasion) Dancing In The Dark and I’m on Fire (cringe).
