Day 1 of the Waukesha Christmas Parade attack trial: Defendant Darrell Brooks Jr. repeatedly removed from courtroom
The Milwaukee Journal ^ | 10/03/2022 | Jim Riccioli

Darrel Brooks Jr. stands trial starting Monday for the Waukesha Christmas Parade attack that left six people dead and dozens injured.

Brooks is facing more than 70 criminal charges: six counts of first-degree intentional homicide with use of a dangerous weapon, 61 counts of recklessly endangering safety with use of a dangerous weapon, six counts of hit-and-run involving death and two counts of bail jumping, all felonies; and two counts of misdemeanor domestic abuse-battery. *** He will represent himself. Here's what happened on Day 1 of the trial, which begins with jury selection.

Brooks was removed repeatedly from the courtroom

After repeated disruptions, Waukesha County Circuit Judge Jennifer Dorow removed Brooks from the courtroom, three times in the morning and again in the afternoon.

Brooks was removed for a second time after Dorow told him he was continuing to be disruptive, something he had previously been warned about. In all, Dorow called six breaks in the proceedings between 8:30 a.m. and noon, not counting the two instances where Brooks had to be removed.

"If your intention is to disrupt these proceedings ... or make a mockery of this court, I cannot tolerate that," Dorow told Brooks during a spate of interruptions.

"I cannot see how my conduct is disruptive," Brooks said. ***

Attorneys always try to make their client look respectable...no dreads and a short haircut, suit, etc.

But whatever, it’s clear that he’s trying for an insanity defense and he believes that these antics are going to prove it. I can’t believe a judge or jury would fall for it though.

Actually, his forehead looks the same to me in both pictures. The lighting’s different but that’s all I see.

I wonder if he was an aspiring rapper, and was turning his life around? 👎

Death penalty in WI? (wishful thinking)

I can't believe the judge has let it get this far. She has to be poring over case law to find a way out of this. It's pretty clear that Brooks has chosen to represent himself because that is how he can be most disruptive, which would lead to a mistrial, or might help overturn a conviction on appeal. You would think that smart judges would be able to see through this scam, but from what I've seen of judges lately, they don't seem to have a good sense that there are some people who simply need to be locked up forever.

I’m sure the media will be all over it and broadcasting the trial across the nation.

If I remember correctly, there is no death penalty in WI. However, putting him in with the general population, and letting the other prisoners know what he did might be just what the doctor ordered.

Great catch.

So without any shame the “journalists” and their photo dept. deliberately falsify the reporting.

Social media say its fake news if scientists report facts against the man made climate change hoax or the Covid jab hoax. But this is genuine fake news.

If they make the dude look too white the prejudiced black jurors will convict him out of racist animosity.

Judges and juries are part of the corrupt and worthless “system of justice” that I disdain. Even if convicted the perps either get out right away (legal maneuver) or after a much reduced sentence. they remember the witnesses, family members of the victim and the jurors. 7 years later, 9 years later. There is no death penalty in WI or many other states-——except for the citizens who die in the future from the perps not being dead.

As: 92% of DC voted all Dem all-— the time so jurors put in the pool are hoping to convict Trump and any other white on anything they can.
They are impatient to convict before even being seated.
I won’t bring up my continuing grudge over the OJ travesty. Oops-—I just did. Americans continue to pay for letting that one get by.

This is an accurate assessment. If this shit can tie court proceedings up long enough a plea deal may be offered that gives him a good shot at release in 15 or so years. With ‘good behavior’ he may be looking at getting out in 12 years or so with time served being counted. This is Wisconsin after all.
