Joe Biden Admits Failure in Puerto Rico After Hurricane Fiona: ‘They Haven’t Been Taken Very Good Care Of’

President Joe Biden on Monday admitted the federal government was failing Puerto Rico, speaking as he left the White House to visit two weeks after Hurricane Fiona hit the island.

“I’m heading to Puerto Rico because they haven’t been taken very good care of,” Biden told reporters after exiting the White House.

Both the president and First Lady Jill Biden are traveling to Puerto Rico to get updates on the island’s recovery and help pack bags of food and essential items for residents still struggling after the Category 1 storm.

Over 120,000 residents are still without power, two weeks after the storm.

The president pointed to the previous Category 5 Hurricane Maria for devastating the island in 2017.

“They’re trying like hell to catch up from the last hurricane,” Biden said. “I want to see the state of affairs today and make sure we push everything we can.”

Biden also acknowledged the federal government was coming up short during an event with the Congressional Black Caucus on Saturday.

Biden frequently criticized former President Donald Trump for failing to help Puerto Rico recover from Hurricane Maria, even though Trump visited the island after the storm.

“What did he do? Toss rolls of paper towels at them. He doesn’t have any real answers,” Biden said during a 2020 campaign drive-in car rally in Tampa.

Puerto Rico is Puerto Rico’s biggest problem.

PR is run by the most corrupt and uncaring Democrats that look for ways to enrich themselves before helping a single citizen.

The federal government has never done a very good job taking care of anything. That’s not their job. If they aim to take care of anything in your direction, RUN!

Exactly - they never get back up entirely after the last Hurricanes. Why change their equation when they get new property or shelter every time.

So Biden is going to pack bags of food. Okey dokey.

FEMA cannot do anything but work within the state emergency plan.

That is what was so frustrating about Katrina....the state and cities did not have good plans. FEMA could only do so much.

Puerto Rico should have one of the best emergency plans after Maria, but they screwed up again because it is run by incompetent, corrupt Democrats.

“(Governor) Pierluisi is a member of the New Progressive Party in Puerto Rico which advocates statehood for the Island territory. While on Capitol Hill, Pierluisi caucused with the House Democratic Caucus.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedro_Pierluisi

The mess is supposed to happen, just like tent cities in San Francisco and zombies on the streets of Baltimore and Philadelphia.

It’s a feature of Democrat governance, not a bug.

Oh, they were properly taken care of; they just refused to stop the corruption that kept taxpayer help from reaching the people.
