Joel Embiid is an American citizen.
Born in Cameroon, Embiid said Thursday he was sworn in as a citizen two weeks ago in Philadelphia. The NBA scoring champion and Philadelphia 76ers All-Star center said his family -- Embiid and his Brazilian girlfriend, Anne de Paula, have a 2-year-old son -- played a pivotal role in his decision.
"I've been here for a long time," Embiid told The Associated Press at Sixers training camp at The Citadel. "My son is American. I felt like, I'm living here and it's a blessing to be an American. So I said, why not?"
Embiid, 28, graduated from a Florida high school and played a season in college at Kansas before the 76ers drafted him No. 3 overall in 2014. The natural question raised is, which country could Embiid potentially represent in international basketball? Embiid defused speculation and said it was way too early to think about the Olympics or other international tournaments.

You can always tell Christians from Muslims in that part of Africa. Whatever their last name is, their first name will be from the Bible if they are from a Christian family. If they are Muslim it will be an Arabic name. If they are neither it will be a weird African name.

I used to be a big NBA fan, but not amy more. That said, Embiid in this current generation of NBA stars seems to be one of the more decent ones.
It’s the homegrown NBA stars (wokeness and bad behavior) that are turning people off from the sport unlike the international stars such as Embiid, Luka Donic and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
I enjoyed watching the Euro Basket tournament. More and more NBA players are coming from Europe.
Don't forget, they're getting paid really well. Millions of dollars. Back in Bird, Magic and Jordan's day, all of the players had to grind a bit. I think that kept them grounded. And they were hungry.
The international stars didn't grow up in the U.S. so they are more grateful for what they get when they come to the league to play ball. So I respect them.
But I'm not watching NBA. Not a fan of the product. It used to be fun to watch. It's no longer the case today. Just my two cents.
Agree with everything you said. Plus the USA born star players get pampered even in high school giving them a sense of entitlement before they even begin college ball let alone the NBA.
