Montana woman shoots, skins Siberian husky she mistook for a wolf Amanda Rose Barnes insisted she acted in self-defense after the pooch growled at her.
A Montana woman who shot and skinned a Siberian husky she mistook for a wolf on a hunting trip, and then posted the gruesome pictures on social media, has sparked public outrage – and a police investigation.
Amber Rose Barnes, 36, of Martin City, faced swift backlash after she bragged about the kill on Facebook.
"So this morning I set out for a solo predator hunt for a fall black bear however I got the opportunity to take another predator wolf pup 2022 was a great feeling to text my man and say I just smoked a wolf pup #firstworld #onelesspredatorMT," she wrote above five photos of her posing with the bloodied pooch.
In one picture, the skinned husky is sprawled out on her flatbed truck as she smiles broadly, stroking the pup's lifeless head with her right hand and clutching her rifle with her left.

Huskies by nature are super friendly and full of extreme happy energy. They make lousy watch dogs because they love visitors and strangers.
If this dog growled he’s had some world view alteration.
My sister has two dumpster curs and a few more mutts that she has had previously, and barn cats which are self-sustaining in that they cycle through because Critters get cats during the dead of night...
She’s is also actively involved with a rescue that only rehomes dogs to homes outside of Tennessee... specifically “Outside of Tennessee” - it’s that bad.
I was down visiting in 2017 helping her get the farm started up that spring, and there was a small independently owned grocery in The Crossroads close by and we stopped over there one afternoon and there’s a dog in the parking lot. A nice looking mix, tall lean friendly going from car to car and my sister said “that’s a drop off” and we got the dog she went inside the grocery & apparently the dog had been around the parking lot for a few days. We took it back to her place, then a couple days later we went towards Nashville and took it to a well-organized rescue kennel and that dog was going out of state.
Drop offs are everywhere in Tennessee, and wild dogs feral or dropped are not tolerated in livestock or hunting country.
The never-ending desire for attention.
Dog or no, if any animal is attacking me, I will not hesitate to shot it.
I owned very large husky, do not kid yourself about the fear they can put into someone, or the damage they can do if they choose to.
If this animal was threatening or attacking her, I have no issues at all with her putting it down.
Her confusing it with a wolf is irrelevant.
3 days into a five day backpack trek in the Smoky Mountains two dogs entered our camp. They had radio collars and name badges.
We fed them a small amount since we didn’t have a lot extra. They hung with us.
When we got a phone signal we called the owner who met us when we came off the trail.
Turns out the guy was a bear poacher. We should have shot the dogs.
Disagree. Problem is that she only claimed in later posts, that it was self defense, after people told her it was a dog.

She is claiming it attacked, you can disagree whether you believe her or not, but if an animal is attacking me I will not hesitate to kill it period.

Many of these people posting here on this, their idea of traveling into the wildness is no more than a step or two off their back porch. Clueless with an opinion. A dangerous mix in the wild. These are the people we read about getting tossed by buffalo.
Had a friend who passed away some years ago. Worked on his family farm as a kid and he gave me a recommendation to attend Rutger. He was a professor there. He at one time taught in India. While he was there they asked him to kill a Maneater who was plaguing the region. He did wind up shooting it and when field dressing it found numerous pieces of jewelry. Kept the hide in his college office and upon his death gave it to Princeton University.
Have no problem with self defense. Problem for her is she went hunting wolves, killed and skinned a dog and announced she killed a wolf pup. Self-defense only came up AFTER it was pointed out to her that she had killed a dog.

I think it was on Mountain Men, I saw this one guy who skinned his favorite dog upon its death. Made gloves out of his fur. Know I could never do that but then I’m not a mountain man.
I detest 'hunters' like this stupid woman, who tarnishes all hunters with her stupidity.
Also, here in rural Alabama we are plagued by semi-wild strays and poorly cared for dogs. They eat our free-range chickens and have attacked our neighbors livestock (e.g., sheep, goats, and pets including small dogs. There is no animal control other than ourselves. I shoot at them all the time. One of them even looked part husky.
People dump dogs in the Everglades.
Some of my FB friends have rescued Dobermans out of the swamps.
People suck.
They’re also the #1 breed to take off over the fence and run, because that’s who they are.

Maybe the ditz couldn’t distinguish the typical Husky “talking” from a “growl”.
