General Motors pushed back the start of a return-to-office plan after facing fierce resistance from employees over its handling of the rollout.
The Detroit-based auto giant rankled corporate employees by announcing in a memo last Friday afternoon that they would be required to work onsite at least three days per week beginning later this year.
But GM executives reversed course in an update to staffers on Tuesday – saying the plan won’t be implemented until the first quarter of next year at the earliest. The company also apologized for the manner in which employees learned of the change.
“We acknowledge that the timing of the message, late on a Friday afternoon, was unfortunate. It was also unintentional,” GM CEO Mary Barra and other executives said in a memo to employees obtained by The Post.

GM employees took to online message boards to vent their frustration, including Blind, an anonymous corporate forum which verifies employees using their professional email accounts.
One worker wrote “General Motors is doomed” in response to the policy.
“So many people were already on the edge of leaving because of low pay and now this ####,” the worker wrote, adding, “they will never retain young talent.”
“Anyone find it interesting last month GM leaders say wfh is new standard and now we are forced to return with no heads up? If they are trying to push us out they are doing a good job,” another worker wrote.

The jerks in government who implemented the covid restrictions need to be punished - nationwide.
And yes, I know it won’t happen.
“We acknowledge that the timing of the message, late on a Friday afternoon, was unfortunate. It was also unintentional,” GM CEO Mary Barra and other executives said in a memo to employees obtained by The Post.
Weak.
OMG...the “horror” of having to work onsite three days a week.
For some, it’s the commute.
Who wouldn’t wanna work from home? No traffic no gas $ required.
GM needs to make statements, not apologies. I’ll bet the Union is behind this very daring show of resistance.
Hire some Scabs then. That should get the fussy workers back to the plant.
No one does the full job remotely.
Too many lazy fat liberals
When all that “young talent” that refuses to return to work is laid off, I won’t feel sorry.
I fear the work force has gotten lazy. How can we be competitive if people don’t even want to come in to work? Sure is different from when I worked. We were glad to have a decent job.
Fire them and get people in there that actually want to show up.
I doubt that is the case. The plant workers have to show up to build the cars. It is more likely the GM HQ staff at the Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit that are complaining.
Nobody who was sent home to work in early 2020 should be forced back into an office until every dumbass in government and corporate leadership positions who was complicit in the COVID lockdowns resigns.
That’s not true. Many are even more productive remote. Studies show it.
Some people really enjoy working and at home they get more hours in and are more available to put out fires, like myself for instance. It’s not uncommon for me to be available in GA for late evening impromptu meetings with our divisions in CA or AZ or CO, etc. Saves days of delay were I working in office as I used to. The three hours a day I was commuting is available for work and I do it many days. Less stress from the drive being eliminated means I am happy to repay my employer with more of my time. It’s a win-win.
How many people want to move to Detroit?
But they kept us safe from the China-cooties and flattened those "mean Tweets". /s
Hey, watch it! The Gurrrls are in charge now... even if you are correct....
Fire them. Hire new ones fresh from college.
Government Motors.
