Bill Maher says he’s no longer predicting that Democrats will be pummeled in the midterm elections, with abortion offering a “turning point” on momentum.
“Things have really turned around,” Maher told ITK in a recent interview.
“The Republicans are the dog that caught the car with abortion,” the HBO “Real Time” host said of the Supreme Court’s June ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the federal right to the abortion established by Roe v. Wade.
“They’ve been trying to do this for 50 years, and then now you notice that the Republican candidates don’t even want to be asked about the subject. And sometimes when they do get asked about it, they kind of backtrack: ‘Abortion, I guess I heard something about a ruling recently,’” Maher said.

“Its only a BIG issue in safe Dem seats/districts...”
Well, I think it’s also going to be a bit of an issue in the “purple” suburbs. Plenty of “moderate” Republicans still want the freedom to abort babies. Back in the heyday of the “culture wars”, abortion and gay marriage/civil unions were the 2 most common issues that “moderates” in the Republican party differed from the national platform on.
Well, if we have people like Graham poisoning the well with his “ban abortion nationwide” talk. Either he is an utter fool with no political sense, or he’s doing it on purpose.
Of course it’s the latter.
Well he was squeezed hard in some way, maybe real threats or maybe just ‘no more ass from me , baby, unless you tow the line”.
If Democrats had brains, they would at least know that House and Senate elections will have no impact on abortion because SCOTUS held that it is a state issue. That is, even if COngress codified it, the Court would strike it down.
Nobody’s talking about abortion except screeching man-hating types in ugly shoes who would never vote for a conservative in the first place. The SC ruling fell off the front pages faster than a Democrat ensnared in a sex scandal
Just as abortion fades as an issue in polling of likely voters, Bill Maher decides to go all in on delusional thinking.
that’s what they are saying now, but when we take the house in November they will say... well... that was to be expected, the out party nearly always picks up seats in the midterms!
*rolls eyes*
I am nearly 100% certain we take the House, because honestly when you look at the polling, we have the majority before you even look at the competitive races!
So stick it where the sun don't shine Bill.
Then you don't know them like I do.
Yeah lets see, what is more important, not being able to go outside your home cause there is a crack head injecting crack on your sidewalk while taking a leak or murdering your unborn baby gee this is a tough one
I think this is spot on. It may drive a few other militant women to the polls elsewhere but voters will vote with their wallets as they always do.
Maher has got the word that The 2022 Steal is a go.
Hey Bill, how is that gas price going?
Abortion won’t save them, nothing will at this point.
And we all know those Hispanic voters love them some abortion.
After all, all the people of color are alike and vote alike. /s
A local V station in the Twin Cities did a short story on the abortion issue. They quoted an ABC-WaPo poll in which the top two issues were the economy at 25% and abortion at 19%. The issue of crime and security was way down there at 13%.
If true, this nation is screwed - not because the Democrats will win but because there are a significant share of voters who don’t give a rat’s ass about the economy or whether they’ll get mugged or killed and instead are more focused on whether their bestie can obtain an abortion.
It will be a wipeout...dems will lose house and senate...whether that helps us in the real world remains to be seen.
