Russia's two most senior lawmakers on Sunday addressed a string of complaints about Russia's mobilisation drive, ordering regional officials to get a handle on the situation and swiftly solve the "excesses" that have stoked public anger.
President Vladimir Putin's move to order Russia's first military mobilisation since World War Two triggered protests across the country and seen flocks of military-age men flee, causing tailbacks at borders and flights to sell out.
Multiple reports have also documented how people with no military service have been issued draft papers - contrary to Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu's guarantee that only those with special military skills or combat experience would be called up - prompting even ultra-loyal pro-Kremlin figures to publicly express concern.
Russia's top two parliamentarians, both close Putin allies, explicitly addressed public anger at the way the mobilisation drive was unfolding.
Valentina Matviyenko, the chairwoman of Russia's upper house, the Federation Council, said she was aware of reports of men who should be ineligible for the draft being called up.
"Such excesses are absolutely unacceptable. And, I consider it absolutely right that they are triggering a sharp reaction in society," she said in a post on the Telegram messaging app.
In a direct message to Russia's regional governors - who she said had "full responsibility" for implementing the call-up - she wrote: "Ensure the implementation of partial mobilisation is carried out in full and absolute compliance with the outlined criteria. Without a single mistake."
Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the State Duma, Russia's lower chamber, also expressed concern in a separate post.
"Complaints are being received," he said.
"If a mistake is made, it is necessary to correct it ... Authorities at every level should understand their responsibilities."

The ending is going to be UGLY for Putin.
Funny..
LOL
Has it occurred to anyone that a number of officials have deliberately f’ed up the mobilization because Putin has not had the sense to go home. Only reservists of a certain age, with certain skills were supposed to be called up. Many outside those parameters have been affected or frightened and fled. Now the “people” are really paying attention to the war mess. If Putin insists that Belarus join the fight, this could be a further FUBAR. How much longer can Putin hang on with this much chaos and confusion?
Kazan and Achilles are off the rails as far as mad Pro-Putin rhetoric. They always toss in a few “neocons” and “globohomos”. Cranked is up there with these two.
Vituperation prize goes to Kazan. You can almost see the spittle sputtering onto his keyboard.
But I thought Putin didn’t allow dissent
I hope not much longer. The longer he stays the more likely he will disintegrate Russia
FR Putin-Kantoreks is what they are. Advocating death and destruction of innocents for territorial conquest while ensuring they avoid the consequences themselves. They are below contemptable.
Putin doesn’t allow dissent. This shows that that dictator of 22 years is losing his grip
So you then agree that Putin is using Chechen Muslim Jihadists to fight in Ukraine?
it’s too late.
Imagine a different scenario - Putin, after recognizing the “independence” of the Dontesk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s republic on 23rd February, proceeds to have a referendum in those “republics” to join Russia.
Net result - those two parts join Russia
Zelenskyy who had a very low support rating on Feb 23rd, gets dismal ratings as “he let Russia take more land” - and gets impeached. The next guy comes to power on a pro-Russia plank (to placate Putin).
NATO shuffles its feet as does the EU. They make noises, but don’t do anything. NATO gets weakened further.
Putin ends up with more land, no hurt to his economy and we never realize that the Emperor has no clothes (that Russia is a paper tiger).
But now? there is no way out except to retreat out of Ukraine completely. Even retreated to the Feb 23 borders is not doable as Ukraine has lost too much to let things lie.
He allows that lady for one
Which is why I asked marky
I’ve seen Russian broadcast with dissent plenty
And press conferences where he gets far tougher questions than Biden does
And Z eh?
Dissent much on him go to the pokey
Nope
“I’ve seen Russian broadcast with dissent plenty” —> dissent against Putin? Nah.
And can you name any press conferences where Putin is pressed?
officials have deliberately f’ed up the mobilization

According to what I’m reading and hearing - no need for anyone to deliberately screw the induction system up - it was mostly dismantled after the fall of the USSR and now is completely dysfunctional.
I had to look up what Kantoreks are.
Ukraine is one of the top sunflower growers. The oil is used for cooking in Europe. This is what the stupid evil Russians have ruined for the time being. Or Vlad actually. I know that no oligarch wanted this invasion. How many in the Kremlin wanted this invasion?
That’s an interesting idea. I agree that a backlash is the natural result of a much broader swath of Russians suddenly having a stake in the war. Going along with propaganda is easy until your own or a relatives life is on the line. But the disorderly process is more likely a mix of individual avoidance and the usual offical incompetence and corruption than any deliberate obstruction to get at Putin.
IMO, Putin’s main purpose for this call-up is to signal that no end is in sight, to induce the EU and USA to stop subsidizing Ukraine, and force negotiations. Europe is headed for a cold, expensive winter, and an economic depression that will spread to the US. The US is tiring of pouring billions into Ukraine, and the fall elections will further reduce support for Biden’s proxy war. Gamblers are dangerous (Putin and Biden).
Since when you had a problem with ethnicity and religion in war and conflict?
LOL!! It does seem that way doesn’t it? Putin is getting really desperate when he can’t defeat Ukraine in a seven month war that should have lasted only seven days!
