Has it occurred to anyone that a number of officials have deliberately f’ed up the mobilization because Putin has not had the sense to go home. Only reservists of a certain age, with certain skills were supposed to be called up. Many outside those parameters have been affected or frightened and fled. Now the “people” are really paying attention to the war mess. If Putin insists that Belarus join the fight, this could be a further FUBAR. How much longer can Putin hang on with this much chaos and confusion?
I hope not much longer. The longer he stays the more likely he will disintegrate Russia

According to what I’m reading and hearing - no need for anyone to deliberately screw the induction system up - it was mostly dismantled after the fall of the USSR and now is completely dysfunctional.
That’s an interesting idea. I agree that a backlash is the natural result of a much broader swath of Russians suddenly having a stake in the war. Going along with propaganda is easy until your own or a relatives life is on the line. But the disorderly process is more likely a mix of individual avoidance and the usual offical incompetence and corruption than any deliberate obstruction to get at Putin.
IMO, Putin’s main purpose for this call-up is to signal that no end is in sight, to induce the EU and USA to stop subsidizing Ukraine, and force negotiations. Europe is headed for a cold, expensive winter, and an economic depression that will spread to the US. The US is tiring of pouring billions into Ukraine, and the fall elections will further reduce support for Biden’s proxy war. Gamblers are dangerous (Putin and Biden).
It's possible, but I think the lack of any organized reserve system is the more likely explanation. Kind of like the mistakenly rosy picture painted by Putin's syncophantic advisors who told Putin what they thought he wanted to hear prior to the invasion. The people who knew that things were in such crappy shape wouldn't dare speak up.
So now, Putin was likely told there was a functioning reserve system, so he orders this partial mobilization expecting it wouldn't be tough to pull off, at least administratively. Instead, it's a cluster.
