A Florida prosecutor suspended by Ron DeSantis for defying a new 15-week abortion law says a federal judge’s decision to send his reinstatement appeal to trial means a reckoning is coming for the state’s Republican governor.
Andrew Warren, a Democrat, was removed as Hillsborough county state attorney on 4 August after saying he would not enforce the abortion ban or prosecute providers of gender transition treatment for young people.
DeSantis cited Warren’s alleged “woke agenda” in reasons for his decision.
At a hearing in Tallahassee on Monday, Judge Robert Hinkle denied motions from DeSantis to dismiss Warren’s lawsuit, and another by Warren seeking an immediate return to office, instead requesting their differences be settled at a trial in the coming weeks.
The closely watched case is expected to give clarity to DeSantis’s power to purge elected officials who disagree with him. In recent weeks, the governor has also removed four members of a school board in Broward county that defied him over Covid-19 mask mandates.

NY Times Magazine did a long piece on DeSantis and pointed out his combative nature. Not a totally negative piece at all. But I do think they should have left out that quote from DeSantis that he wishes someone would pick Fauci up and toss him across the Potomac.
I see your point now.
As I see it, the baggage that turn people off about Trump is his constant tweeting kind of stupid petty things, and juvenile name calling.
DeSantis does not appear to do that sort of thing which will appeal to more folks.
Thanks, I needed that! LOL
Does not mean that at all. It means judge is ignorant of Florida statute which codifies just what DeSantis did.
Calling Fauci a “little elf”?
He was removed because of lax enforcement of state criminal statutes. Law enforcement had no use for him.
He should not be. The governor’s power to remove Warren from office is very clear.
It doesn’t mean a reckoning is coming, it means a court granted a hearing. I doubt much comes out of this.
Fair point. I will rephrase my comment to say DeSantis does not typically call people names or tweet stupid juvenile comments.
Not just our cause any cause that is not their's.
It’s not because he disagreed it’s because he refused to enforce the law.
You would think the trial Judge whoever that is would have noticed that before he allowed this to come to trial. The Constitution only binds those that believe in it. We have allowed that which the founders feared most, a superior judicial branch.
Why is a federal judge involved in a case between two state officials?
By the time January 2025 comes around, we’re going to need
a person that has extensive experience in big dollar deals
and high finance. He’s got a Wharton degree, and after
seeing him operate the first time around, he gets economics.
I honestly like Ron, but I do see value in having Trump in
there again, first.
Yes, I’d agree with that.
Absolutely, which is why we have to take the offensive and go for the carotids, jugulars, aorta, and the inferior vena cava and take everything away from them - from a political power and relevance perspective.
Yup. The left is masters at it. It’s their system
That right there is the key question. Federal ‘civil rights’? Doesn’t seem to pass the smell test.
Completely agree.
