[If her work computer had been in an office in another room, she would not have been tipped off by its hard drive waking up and going into “turbine helicopter mode.” And she’d probably have been arrested for possessing T/S material. And her husband arrested for kiddie porn. Their family destroyed—by the deep state NSA/FBI/CIA/whoever.]
So Atkisson took her computer to “white hat” ex-fed-agent computer experts. The FBI/NSA/CIA/whoever had planted T/S files in her computer hard drive, to be “found” later after an FBI raid. [Think: Mar A Lago. Your FBI/NSA/CIA. Your tax dollars at work.]

He was a active participant. The FBI did not plant anything on his computer. What happened anyone else has nothing to do with Ritter. He was caught because of his own actions.

The FBI has always been sketchy. J.Edgar Hoover was a closeted cross-dressing gay, and he figured that everyone else had as much to hide as he did, so he spied on everyone.
He built the FBI, created the culture and the structure and the rules and procedures. He's never been repudiated, hell the big concrete bunker-building in D.C. is still named after him.
They covered up for him, and he was never punished.
