The Senate on Wednesday ratified an international treaty that mandates nations to phase out hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) to protect the earthโs ozone layer, which will impose new standards that will raise the costs of air conditioning and refrigeration.
A group of 50 Senate Democrats and 19 Republicans voted to pass the Kigali Amendment to the 1987 United Nations (UN) Montreal Protocol. The amendment, which 27 Republicans voted to oppose, will limit the production and use of HFCs, man-made chemicals that are primarily used for cooling and refrigeration, by 85% over 15 years, which could substantially increase consumer and business costs in related industries.

The ratification needed 67 votes, and they got 69. McConnell sided with the environmental wackos. The rest of the RINOs are the usual suspects: Collins, Romney, Murkowski (wpho needs Democrat voters to win her re-election), Graham, So did Marco Rubio, who is up for reelection this year from a state heavily dependent on air conditioning. Most of the Sunshine State was thinly populated before the advent of air conditioners. What is Rubio thinking? Ditto for Grassley, although Iowa could live without air conditioning if necessary. There are some surprises, like Jerry Moran of Kansas, not usually a turncoat. No doubt some deal was made for his vote.

I’m guessing these morons understand that the replacement of HFCs, as indicated by others in this thread, is already well underway. Unfortunately, as I understand it, the Kigali treaty accelerates the timetable, which could still cause disruptions.
They’re still morons.

The government has already wrecked showers, toilets, dish washers and washing machines so now they are moving on to air conditioners.

the great thing about the internet is that it is an equalizer for repairs. Several of the parts sites provide detailed videos like www.partselect.com. They put them up on youtube.
I am an old woman and still managed to repair that dryer...back in the day of my grandmother she would have had to call a repairman.

Just looking at the roll call list in post #21, I am dumbfounded by the number of southern senators who are OK with it. RINO pricks like Romney and Murkowski were expected. Those from the south and solid conservative states elsewhere like Wyoming, no!
