The House pushed ahead Wednesday with legislation that would revamp the rules for certifying the results of a presidential election as lawmakers accelerate their response to the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and Donald Trump’s failed attempt to remain in power.
The legislation would overhaul an arcane 1800s-era statute known as the Electoral Count Act that governs, along with the U.S. Constitution, how states and Congress certify electors and declare presidential election winners. The House planned a vote on the bill after afternoon debate. […]
The legislation intends to ensure that future Jan. 6 sessions are “as the constitution envisioned, a ministerial day,” said Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, a Republican who co-sponsored the legislation with House Administration Committee Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif. …

>> an arcane 1800s-era statute
where the Constitution is even more “arcane” than that!
This moron actually believes this.
Doublethink at work.
This seems blatantly unconstitutional to me. Of course the vile Cheney is neck deep in this. Would be nice if just once the GOP would bring up the fact the rats and Hollywood made Trumps electors a living hell leading up to the EC vote.
What it really would guarantee is that New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and Atlanta would elect the president, the congress and the senate and every one else might as well stay home on election day.
I left out a few, but the point is made.
So the very people who have ruined their home state would now get to ruin the entire country.
Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States. Can’t ask the GOP wing of the Uniparty to be something they are not, can we.

Yep; tyranny of the perceived majority.
A law that has stood for 200 years in this regard...probably should remain untouched.
With God’s sense of humor, the Republicans will win and Kamala will have no ability to challenge the result lol
Ah yes - the same “loopholes” the Democrats USED in 2001, 2005 and 2017.
why not replace him with a giant rubber stamp?
its the same thing
I have to ‘certify’ things at my work.
If I certify’ something and it breaks and kills people, I am probably in LEGAL risk.
Pence had every right to postpone certification until legitimate concerns were addressed.
He was just a coward. And will be remember in history as a coward, instead of a hero.
Seems to me that if they wanted it to be “as the constitution envisioned” they would REPEAL the act, not ‘fix’ it. But, as the saying goes, “The fix is in”.
Tick….tick……tick…..
Summary:
Anyone who has thought, spoken, or written anything critical of the government will be denied the vote...
Anyone who does not support LGBT either vocally, in writing, or financially will be denied the vote...
Anyone who owns a gun will be denied the vote...
Anyone who voted for or supported Donald Trump in any manner will be denied the vote...
Anyone who has criticized Critical Race Theory either in thinking, speaking, writing, or other actions will be denied the vote...
Anyone who does not support open borders and the wonderful new voters pouring across the borders will be denied the vote...
The 12th has stood in charge for 218 years now. Those who passed the Election Count act in the late 1800s knew what they were passing as probably unconstitutional but were trying to justify their NOT following the 12th a couple election cycles back. Had we followed the 12th this time Biden would never have been President, but like in Tilden v. Hayes the powers that be could see what the 12th would do, wanted something different, and acted accordingly. At least in the Tilden vs. Hayes election the motive for the cheating was somewhat laudable. Biden's was worse.
“revamp the rules for certifying the results of a presidential election”
Why change it? VP had no authority to not “certify”.
Oh, so he could have? that’s why you have to change it?
So then, Pence really is a shiitepipe as we suspect, and the election was filled with chicanery, and state courts overstepping their proscribed roles.
OK. I got it.
Warroom had a brief video on this. Can’t find it.

Now that’s an insurrection twisted.
