The Louisiana State University senior who was fatally shot while sitting in her car Friday morning appears to be the victim of a random attack, police said Tuesday.
Investigators have found no evidence indicating that 21-year-old Allison Rice was targeted by her killer, a Baton Rouge police spokesperson told WBRZ on Tuesday.
The development came as authorities also revealed federal agents from the FBI, ATF and DEA have offered assistance in the case, District Attorney Hillar Moore told the outlet.
Moore called the murder an “isolated and random act,” and said detectives have pursued every single tip and lead they have received.
“They are working their tails off trying to get info they can. There are also rumors as phones are ringing off the hook. People saying what they think happened. I caution people not to go there,” Moore said.
Despite all the tips, cops have not received enough evidence to identify the shooter.
Rice was found shot dead in her car early Friday morning as she was stopped at a railroad crossing in downtown Baton Rouge.
Police said the shooter fired at least five or six shots into Rice’s car. There are no surveillance cameras near the crossing.
Prior to the shooting, investigators and family members said Rice, who had just turned 21, was out at a bar with her friends in the Mid City area of Baton Rouge, just minutes away from where she was found.
Her father, Paul Rice, said that he believes his daughter was tragically in the “wrong place at the wrong time,” adding that the area where she was found is notoriously dangerous.

Had to drive through a notoriously bad part of town in a very violent city to get from the clubs she was at to home.
A witness quoted on a different article suggests she might have been trying to get away from a carjacker.
Sad story all around.
May God comfort her grieving family and may He give her peace eternal.
Understanding the meaning of THEIR words:
“Random murder” = black-on-white murder.
A certain people group are murderous down there. But no worries, the FBI is offering help.
Yep
That whole state gives me the creeps.
Stay away from areas where random events happen.
Leaving a bar late at night in a notoriously dangerous part of town. Somebody followed her. A sad cautionary tale.
The FBI is busy looking for white supremacists (and manufacturing them when they can't find them) as they are currently the greatest threat to America.
And, yes, I know you were being sarcastic.
Seriously though. They'll find the murderer. Probably a low-IQ knuckle-dragger who will brag about it to his homies only to have one of them drop a dime on him to collect the reward money.
because we all know how to read between the lines, I think you are probably right....
Probably.
Blacks violence against non-blacks dwarfs violence in the reverse direction.
Why the BLM narrative is pure fairy tale.
if your kid wants to experience a new culture, send him to Japan...he'll be relatively safe there.
there is a certain segment of American culture that is low IQ and have no morals or values and are actually devolving, not evolving.....
lead separate lives....
“federal agents from the FBI, ATF and DEA have offered assistance in the case”
There must be more to this than just the typical black murdering a white for the Gestapo, KGB, and Stasi all to offer their “assistance”.
Has the governor formed another task force to solve these random crimes?
Midterms coming up.
The killer fired 5 or 6 shots. I am guessing there is some kind of motive here beyond randomly encountering car driven by White girl and immediately opening fire. Attempted assault or carjacking? IDK
Almost certainly a case of “gibs me dat” gone bad.
Our youngest did a year abroad there, and we went to visit at the end, and toured around a bit. A very civilized place, the people don't seem to worry at all about crime.
The example that explaines it for us was the students would study at local cafes and coffee shops in town, not too different from the way some like to go to Starbucks here. But kids would often leave expensive laptops and cell phones unattended during trips to the restroom, or for discussions on the other side of the shop. Never occured to them that someone would swipe the pricey electronics.
They simply don't tolerate bad behavior.
