THIS IS GOING TO BE A HISTORIC WEEK—Before the Balloon goes up. All the illegal problems, recession, abortion, Trump Raid—all forgotten as more important things overshadow these problems. Rationing coming and the draft including women and illegal aliens. Look for martial law in the cities and execution of looters. Fighting will not be limited to Ukraine— Soon as NATO enters the fray, Russians will invade Poland and The Baltics. Wait for the pulse bomb to take down the grid. No power, no phones, no electric cars etc... I really hope I am wrong. Then, what if China enters the fight? Well, we will see who our friends really are.

Putin: “Nuclear blackmail has also begun. We are talking about the statements of some high-ranking leaders of NATO countries about the possibility and admissibility of using nuclear weapons against Russia. I want to remind you that our country also has various weapons of mass destruction, which are superior in some components to the weapons of NATO countries. For protection of Russia, we will certainly use all the means at our disposal. And this is not a bluff. Those who are trying to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the “wind rose” can turn in their direction.”

Even if this was true, which I don’t believe, then what would Rusian young men trying to escape be more worried about right now - the info about their searches going to the KGB or to the FBI?

Russia is only calling specially trained reservists.
No young men.

Putin’s hand will not waver. If necessary, he will press that damn red nuclear button, I told you more than once.

Putin: “Nuclear blackmail has also begun. I want to remind you that our country also has various weapons of mass destruction, which are superior in some components to the weapons of NATO countries. It doesn’t really mean anything if these areas become part of Russia. It only counts if the Russian believe it. If they do—Ukraine has to make a choice. Lose the lands or declare war on Russia herself. The NATO Confederation will need to think—is it worth it? Who wants a World War? How many NATO Nations will fight? Will Serbia? Hungary? Italy? Turkey? What about Russias allies? China? Syria? Iran? Lots of other places—South Africa? Cuba? Panama? Mexico? Brazil? This could get out of hand fast.

That “specially trained reservist” means men 20-40, who have been unable to avoid conscription.

Doesn’t really matter of course because Russia has no way to train or arm them and they don’t have officers to lead them and logistical capabilities to support them.

Putin has walked into a war he is losing and doesn’t know what to do, but feels he must do *something*. His options are only empty boasts so he did this.

Bug off on we pro-freedom types being influenced by Big Media. I follow the brave Russians that Moscow declares to me “foreign agents”. I also take the pulse of Russian social media. I also have contacts in the Donbas and across Ukraine. You, on the other hand, have espoused 98 percent Moscow talking points since February. You should broaden your horizons. Glory to Ukraine! Stand up for Russian dissidents!

Within minutes of his speech, Russian flights out of the country were fully booked amd the stock market tumbled further.

Anyone in Russia with a good education and moderate wealth is getting out of Dodge.

As Goebbels said, there’s no point trying to win over the wealthy intelligentsia, because they’ll see thru it.

The best propaganda must be emotional and geared towards the thick, gullible, poor majority. Mirror arguments that can’t be refuted by the blindfolded consumer.

So Putin claims that the west is threatening Russia with nukes after six months of his own Duma talking about nuking the West.

Anyone in Russia who wanted to hear even one western threat of use of nuclear, would find nothing. Because it never happened. Also, if if it had happened, Russian media would be playing it on loop to prove their argument.

The only reason they won’t stop banging on about the nukes is, they’re tonto enough to go nuclear to avoid a complete rout in Ukraine, but not brave enough to admit that they’re using nuclear blackmail BECAUSE their land grab is floundering.

Smart, rich Russians figured that out months ago and that’s one reason why the Russian state propaganda channels have lost so many viewers... And why the planes are going to be rammed to capacity over the next few days.

Just yesterday their biggest state propagandists lamented on TV that Russia should have nuked Queen Elizabeth’s funeral so they could have gotten all the western leadership in one go.

I guess “threatening with nukes” is some western commentators saying that if Russia really did this insane thing they’d get nuked back.

“I just listened to the whole speech. He says the West has threatened Russia with nukes and he will not take the use off the table if the West uses Ukraine to attack inside territorial Russia.”

So now Putin is claiming Ukraine is the aggressor and wants to invade Russia? Doesn’t sound like a guy who thinks he’s winning.

Putin is certainly playing a high risk game here, as one of the few viable options NATO can consider is to eliminate him and hope that the replacement will end the misadventure.

Another high risk option NATO has is to declare a vital interest and go into Ukraine to make further Russian advances virtually impossible (without resorting to nuclear options which itself would not guarantee any good results for Russia).

I am saying this more from the perspective of analysis than personal preference. I look at the options now available and see nothing but bad outcomes. The main mistake our side made was not to talk more openly with Putin in 2021 about his concerns. That failure led to the current disastrous situation.

Some people in Russia are no doubt going to figure out that liquidating Putin is a good move for them. Whether they have the means, or the cojones, to carry this out, remains to be seen. I think it is at least a 50-50 proposition that Putin does not survive the next six months (there is of course the medical factor but I think that is over-rated).

Hope it doesn't come to that - since it likely implies that NATO would not allow the Ukrainians to liberate their Russian-occupied territory.

This would mean yet another "Frozen Conflict Zone" in Europe - which would be very much to Putin's liking.
