The archbishop of Canterbury appeared to stare straight at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during his funeral sermon for Queen Elizabeth II Monday — in what many have speculated was a subtle dig at the estranged royals.
Justin Welby, the religious head of the Church of England, appeared to look right at the exiled couple as he damned “those who cling to power and privileges,” numerous royal watchers highlighted, accusing him of throwing shade.
The archbishop made the biting comment as he praised the late monarch as one of the “people of loving service” who “are rare in any walk of life.”
“ Leaders of loving service are still rarer. But in all cases, those who serve will be loved and remembered when those who cling to power and privileges are forgotten,” he said.
Footage of the sermon appears to show him staring intently toward the section of Westminster Abbey where Harry and his wife were sitting behind Harry’s dad, King Charles III. Harry was also forbidden from wearing his military uniform and from saluting his grandmother’s coffin during the procession.
Many on Twitter insisted the religious leader was making a dig at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have repeatedly trashed Harry’s family after quitting as senior royals in 2020, including accusing them of bullying and racism.

I’m glad Harry wasn’t allowed to wear his military garb. I’m sure it was at the direction of Queen Elizabeth.
What is wrong with the word “ignore?” Must we all be subservient to the woke jargon?
“Im glad Harry wasn’t allowed to wear his military garb”
I understand your point. OTOH, he did serve a decade in the military, and was under fire in Afghanistan, so I have mixed feelings
“Did archbishop shade Harry and Meghan during Queen’s funeral sermon?”
Dunno, is this an Op-Ed? Yes? Why not TELL us what you think, and why, and present your data, and let us decide whether we agree?
Looks to me like the question-as-headline is just a gimpy end run around editorial prohibitions against opinion in otherwise “straight news.” Reporter is all but stating their opinion in the headline, but posing it as a question dodges it being an out-and-out statement of opinion. Then the article gets written with all the data that might substantiate the opinion hinted at in the headline/question.
The news business is an absolute shambles.
I pay for The Epoch Times, and note a near-total (not 100%) absence of this formatting over there, which is heartening.
I follow the Brownstone Institute, and note that when they put a question as a headline, it’s actually a real question I would ask about the topic being addressed, not an opinion disguised as one.

Generally we SEE, what we WANT to see. Some reporter is carrying a chip on the shoulder, and imposes their own bias upon the poor priest. Oh My...would that soul look in the mirror and see how hypocritical this is.
The Epoch Times has well written and researched articles. Their comments seem to be made by people who have read the articles as well.
I believe in the Oprah interview Megain claimed he married them in the backyard 3 days before the official wedding and the Archbishop caught a lot of flack over it. He had to publicly announce it didn’t happen.
Uh, given the number of world leaders present I’d say it was an attempt at getting them to lift their game. If any of them had an ounce decency or genuine self awareness there should have been at least some uncomfortable looks and squirming in seats.
My guess is whatever he read or said was QE approved.
Harry actually did wear his uniform with permission of the king.
That’s not woke jargon. It’s just trendy kid lingo.
Kinda like “far out” “foxy” groovy” “sweet” etc. Trendy lingo comes and goes. It isn’t the same as “woke” language changes.
Epoch Times is the only news source (other than my mostly useless Gannett/USA Today affiliate) for which I pay a monthly subscription.
Chinese ex-pats who hate the CCP more than we do deserved our support.
Only for the vigil. As a general rule, former and retired military in the UK do not wear military uniform. Members of the Royal Family who do wear uniforms, do so due to a military role (Colonel-in-Chief of a specific regiment, for example).
The Duke of Sussex relinquished his military roles when he ceased to be a working Royal and moved to California. He also lost his right to wear the uniform.
The Duke of York lost his right to wear a uniform when he was removed from being a working Royal due to being an idiot
I understand your point. OTOH, he did serve a decade in the military, and was under fire in Afghanistan, so I have mixed feelings

He’s an ignorant punk and his wife is a dishonest racist. They should both be formally and permanently banished by the royal family.
Is there a place for the full sermon to be read?
Megan and Harry are busy at “leaking” anything that would continue to get attention.
Harry and Megan are STILL whining and griping about everything, making sure the media gets wind of it. They should be grateful for all the consessions they made for the two of them.
These two need to grow up and act like grownups.
