Recently, the Arizona Mirror revealed that the Republican Party in Arizona is urging Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell to financially support U.S. Senate candidate Blake Masters.
Masters, who secured a coveted endorsement from President Trump, triumphed in the primaries based on that seal of approval.
In the beginning, Masters was trailing his Democrat rival, incumbent Sen. Mark Kelly, by a significant margin of 12 points.
But matters have recently swung in Masters's favor, and a recent Emerson College poll has Kelly leading Masters by just two percentage points. Since the margin of error is around two points, this could be regarded as a tie.
This is a monumental achievement because Masters is lagging significantly behind Kelly in terms of fundraising.
So how has McConnell reacted?
The Senate Leadership Fund, a super-PAC associated with McConnell, reduced its advertising budget in Arizona by around $8 million in August.
It was reported that McConnell was in talks with billionaire entrepreneur Peter Thiel, who spent more than $13 million on behalf of Masters through the Saving Arizona PAC in the primary, to provide financial support for Masters for the general election as well.
According to The Washington Post, those talks failed.
Despite that, Thiel, who is Masters's friend and longtime employer, has resumed spending in the Arizona Senate race.
In addition, Thiel's Saving Arizona PAC announced it will be spending specifically to promote Masters.
The Sentinel Action Fund, a super-PAC associated with the conservative-issues group Heritage Action for America, has pledged to spend at least $5 million to boost Masters. Some $3.5 million from its fund will be dedicated to television ads, while $1.5 million will fund voter outreach.

We have two many MITCHES in the Senate.
Your going to have to pour hot water on Mitch and Lindsey to get them uncoupled.
RINOs can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like nobody’s business.
Pierre Delecto and backstabber McCains presidential campaigns are excellent examples of that.
“Team Mitch” needs to go, now.
McCainnell says Chyna has to clear it.
China Mitch is a member in good standing of the deep state.
Milquetoast McConnell and milksop McCarthy are not our friends............
Mitch wants Trump to empty his war chest.
Not happening.
Meanwhile, Mitch sends plenty of funds to Murkowski.
“Yes”
Wake up Kentucky.
Mitch loved the title of Majority Leader.
He knows how and when to feather his own nest.
Republicans take elections seriously, governing is a whole other matter.
Marble mouth Mitch, the Ballchinian.
The answer is “yes”.
As I’ve said, he has to be defeated in 2026, assuming he runs. Conservatives in KY should vote for the Democrat. A primary challenge will almost certainly fail. I hope some high profile conservatives endorse the Democrat. Maybe talk radio hosts like Mark Levin would do it.
With Linda running around talking about abortion bans, it should be PERFECTLY CLEAR that the Republican leaders DO NOT want the GOP to win the Senate, as they are in abject fear of the Congress being controlled by MAGA.
Bottom line, if Republican leaders cannot control the Senate, they prefer Democrats to run it.
I’m not disputing that the GOPe sucks and are traitors, plain and simple. However as Joe Kent (Washington State 3rd), just showed the GOPe a good candidate doesn’t necessarily needs that stringy money.
Look how McCarthy has used that cash to influence his re-election as leader with ones that claimed to be America First candidates, one in Ohio stands out…
Well Kelly is a fellow traveler when it comes to China, so Mitch will gladly support Kelly as I’m sure his Chinese masters have demanded.
The same people that are proponents of reelecting RINOs in order to take the house and senate, are the same people who tell us that we have to fight with the army that we have, not with the army we wish we had.
RINOs multiply. They take care of their own. They cancel out conservatives. They work for the other side.
I fully agree with this article. I am in Az and Kelly has a massive DNC funded war chest and is running wall to wall ads to the point he appears to be running unopposed. Many do not know who Masters is as they never hear from him after Thiel pulled all his funding when Masters won the primary to the point he has no money for the general. Yet, he is hanging in and coming back as excellent Republican gubernatorial dynamo candidate Kari Lake surges and brings him up with him.
McConnell needs to get off the funding stick and flood the zone
It may not be a bad idea.
Economic collapse is all but inevitable now.
Being in charge when it happens means being blamed.
If you are in charge when it happens you have to do something about it.
The only real actions you can take to combat rampant inflation are painful to the poor and middle class.
On the other hand we know that any actions the Democrats would take are counter productive would only exacerbate and prolong the economic down turn.
Darned if do. Darned if you don’t.
