Exclusive — Mark Meckler: Constitutional Convention Is How ‘We, the People’ Take Power Away from D.C.

Mark Meckler, president of the Convention of States Foundation, discussed the importance of a constitutional convention of the states on Breitbart News Saturday and said it is the “mechanism” for the American people to “take power away from Washington, DC.”

Breitbart News Saturday host Matthew Boyle opened the show by asking Meckler why a constitutional convention of the states is needed in today’s America.

Meckler said that the constitution provides this mechanism to give the American people the power to amend the constitution instead of only Congress having that power. He also noted that the founding fathers unanimously agreed on the idea.

“So there was no debate on this, everybody agreed this is something that was going to be necessary, it was inserted into the Constitution unanimously. That’s how we get the right as citizens in our states to call for a Convention of States,” Meckler said.

“It takes two thirds of states to call, so that means 34 states are required to call for a convention,” Meckler explained. “So far 19 states have called, only 15 to go, well past the halfway mark, pushing towards the two thirds mark.”

Meckler then discussed his organization’s proposed amendments to the constitution, which are primarily focused on limiting the federal government’s powers.

Fair and balanced isn’t what we’re looking for, see post 3.

Not a real problem. 3/4 of the states still have to ratify any amendments or changes.

"We’ve already got the Constitution, which already does that, but the FedGov ignores it and does what it wants anyway?

It's up to the individual states to STOP ignoring the Tenth Amendment.

I am not necessary arguing they are all better principled, certainly some are just opportunists looking to move up the next rung. For the most part what the system depends on is self interest. Not everyone will or wants to move up to the federal level and as long as they are at the state and local level their self interest is to move power done into their sphere.

One the other hand, you can talk and meet with you state reps much easier and if your local people are corrupted jerks it is a lot easier to get them out of office. Devolution of power to the local level is the only way to fix our problems and the only way to make that happen short of violence is the Article V convention.

No, not risky, otherwise lefties would have already pushed it through.

The only downside of an Article V movement is it will fizzle under state legislators who want it buried.

Article V was passed unanimously. Article V is what George Mason insisted be included in the original Constitution because as we see today, a ruling aristocracy would emerge to subjugate the population leaving them locked outside of governance. Self-governance would become a fiction, and that is true today in many states.

Those fussing about enemies running away with a populist Article V amendment proposal process are full of nonsense. It can’t happen if 13 States oppose ratification.

When COS reaches 34 states, it can propose amendments, but it can’t ratify any amendment unless Congress proposes state Conventions may proceed with ratification in lieu of state legislatures.

In other words, an Article V process would culminate in chaos and frustration which is actually a good thing, because it would drive MAGA-minded citizens into state legislatures and into Congress, making way for state delegates to amend the Constitution. It could take years, perhaps a decade.

Americans badly need to amend their Constitution to rid each and every facet of voting and elections of electronics. Electronics and Computers are the newcomer to history. They should have no trace in human elections as they are and will always be prone to abuse.

France has 80 million people and conducts its elections entirely by hand marked paper ballots and completes in one day it elections by 8 pm. Of course, the US can do the same, except it is obstructed by those who have cheated their way into power using hidden electronic manipulation in coordination with fraud or abused voter rolls and computer created counterfeit materials.

As Americans awaken to a Color Revolution orchestrated by agents such as Norm Eisen, Executive Order 14019 continues to bind state and federal bad actors to complete the Coup d’Etat of 2020.

God willing should Americans be victorious in 2022, the first order of business must be to convene an independent commission to investigate every weakness in American elections, inclusive of getting to the bottom of the fraud of 2020.

Such a commission shall publish a comprehensive report that will serve as a guiding reference to be used in drafting a Constitutional Amendment that will serve to safeguard American elections.

I was once in a deep dodo discussion with a liberal …. The liberal told me that Conservatives are easily fooled and liberals can and do fool Conservatives 24/7 and Conservatives never realize they’ve been fooled. The answer to your question is Yes. Seen it happen too many times by backstabbing rinos
