Railroads and unions reached a tentative contract agreement Thursday morning, averting the threat of an imminent strike that would have ravaged the nation’s economy.

The Biden administration intervened in negotiations to push both parties toward a compromise ahead of Friday, the first day that workers could legally walk out.

The two largest rail unions said Thursday that the deal provides key wins for workers that weren’t included in the previous contract proposals.

Here are five key gets in the agreement, according to the unions.

They did NOT broker this deal.

Congress had a proposal and the Dems shot it down.

I was surprised to hear that there are 12 RR unions & that for some reason it seems that the threat of a strike cannot be resolved unless all 12 are in 100% agreement. The inmates are running the asylum.

Doesn’t matter. It’s all about the headlines and the optics. Create a “crisis” and swoop in to solve it. And the suckers buy it.

Yep. This is what a lot of people are saying. A political stunt by Democrats and union bosses.

Here are five key gets in the agreement, according to the unions.

1 Time off for medical appointments

2 More time off

3 Block health care hikes

4 Two-person crews

5 Pay raises - they asked for 14%got from the generous WH 24%, raising the average pay from $100K to $124K

Forgive all employee’s home mortgages, a new car, 6 months maternity/paternity leave. And a partridge in a pear tree.

Is there any precedence for breaking up some of these unions?
I realize that there are different sectors of the rail/transportation system that need to work together for everything to run smoothly, but one or two groups should not be able to corrupt the whole system.

No way in the world Biden would let his unions strike here and cause more economic disasters prior to November, no way no how.

“I was surprised to hear that there are 12 RR unions & that for some reason it seems that the threat of a strike cannot be resolved unless all 12 are in 100% agreement. The inmates are running the asylum.”

Change “RR Unions” to “NATO” and “strike” to “Nuclear strike” and the insanity becomes more clear

....totally agree...it is a total farce, a sham....our beloved Dementia Joe will take credit for all of this in the hopes that his standing and the standing of the Democrats will rise just before the mid-terms....a blind man standing in a dark room with the lights out and the shades drawn could have seen this coming....

Railroads and unions reached a tentative contract agreement Thursday morning, averting the threat of an imminent strike that would have ravaged the nation’s economy.

And Warren Buffett's democrat pocketbook.

He has a substantial amount of ownership in railroad socks.

“Create a “crisis” and swoop in to solve it. And the suckers buy it.”

Plausible. Wonder what are the railroad people getting for letting Biden play hero?

Here’s an interesting bit of history …

One of the major motivations for the establishment of the first U.S. Federal highway system in the 1920s was the overwhelming sentiment in government and various industries that the railroads had become too powerful in the U.S. In the decades leading up to that, railroad strikes and other service disruptions had enormous ripple effects that would cause economic chaos across huge sections of the country.

Congress established the first national highway system to add competition for freight transportation by the trucking industry and diminish the influence of the railroads.
