Denver is giving away Bug-Out-Bags to people who attend their preparedness meetings. Why? Denver is a bug-in type of city. Why is Denver thinking people may need to leave the city?

What is the DenverREADY: Preparedness Program? Click the link and see the large-scale planning and organization that is going into this effort.

We're still being punished by "The Pina Colada Song" and Rupert Holmes on the radio.

I, for one, am crying uncle, aunt, grandma....whatever it takes to stop that song.

But I say....

A well-done bug out bag can easily break $100. Or more.

I wonder what’s in this free one.

No details in the story but the video showed a decent bag with a few of the right items alongside it. Not a good loadout.

I mean, no spare ammo? Come on man!

I found this pic:

Quick scan (not complete): 2 rolls toilet paper, flashlight, rope(?), hand sanitizer (of course), masks (of course), 2 bottles water, crackers, tin of meat, milk, beans?, 2 bars of soap(?), very basic med kit, and.......

Even though I’m in a redstate on a 40-acre farm, I have two bags plus one I built for my dogs. I have the one for us that I built, one I inherited from my mom when she passed, and the one I built for my dogs.

We can see the condensation rising from the nuclear plant at Watt’s Bar Dam, so I have prepared for years to have to evacuate. We are under the coverage of the emergency sirens, so we are close enough for concern. That is the only downside to living in East Tennessee. We have enough water to support two Nuclear plants.

They would also be handy in an extended power loss situation.

Maybe they’re prepping for the Red Tsunami in November.

Better than nothing but not good. So much missing.

If I wasn’t enjoying my coffee time I’d detail what we keep in our bags.

Also my truck has gear and goods for 7 days for 2 people. And I always keep at least 200 miles of fuel in it and 400+ miles of fuel in sturdy cans, properly treated, rotated and stored. Always no ethanol to limit water buildup.

We live far enough out to have a lot of time before any golden horde threat manifests, so stage 1 is get home. If need be we can head to our property in NC. 90 min on back roads.

Net: we’ve heeded Jon Hollerman’s guidance.

PS- we limit the BOBs to 25 pounds for me and 20 for the Queen. Plus water carried in a 2 liter bladder. Too old to even think about an 80# ruck. 😉

Sounds smart. Good plan.

99.999% of the time you’re in a great spot. And realistically the chances of a dangerous release are tiny.

FYI we maintain a ‘camping’ kit that would enable us to exfil and live for 30 days. Can be loaded into the truck and trailer in 15 min.

Self defense and kit for the dogs included a priori.

I have stocked up on those small camping propane tanks and I have a mini stove to put them on. We have been here for almost 40 years without any issues but with terrorists becoming so bold, I’m not leaving anything to chance. I’m sandwiched between Watt’s Bar, Oak Ridge, and Sequoia.

Besides, I’m very good at cooking over a wood fire if necessary. Our power is iffy at best with Volunteer Electric and we spend a lot of time without power.

You may do this already, but ...

Recommend you acquire the screw on adapter from Amazon.com that enables you to 70% refill the little tanks from a 20# grill tank. Saves you money and space. They don’t fill the little tanks all the way like new, but get plenty in to cook a meal.

And depending on your OPSEC needs, propane cooking makes no smoke.

Which way would you bug out??? LOL. Guess it depends on wind’s, eh?

Got iodine tabs? (Bet you do)
