The first statement made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her annual State of the European Union address on Wednesday was not verbal, but visual. Clad in bright blue and yellow alongside other senior politicians, she showed support for Ukraine's battle with Russia, making clear even before the speech began that the war would top the agenda.
With Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska in Strasbourg for the occasion, von der Leyen pledged Europe's "unshakeable" commitment to Kyiv, sending a defiant message to Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
"Putin will fail and Europe will prevail," the chief of the EU executive branch said. "I want to make it very clear, the sanctions are here to stay," von der Leyen stressed, listing off the damage so far inflicted on Russia by punitive measures: a financial sector "on life support," the departure of almost 1,000 international firms and car production down 75% from last year.

Albanians called on big brother Nato to be their airforce. I see Russians in Ukraine calling on big brother Russia to be their airforce. Is there something special about Albanian muslims that you would care to enlighten about
What kind of amazing leader will the globalists appoint in Russia. Think about the ramifications of that. Biden “leaked” the truth when he said the war was about Russian regime change
Do you think the globalist leader, who has already been selected will act in our interest? Putin is a bad man, but I guarantee they will appoint someone exponentially worse.
Bidens senility leaks are being used to move things u er left
You don’t listen well, do you? Or understand how NATO works. Bite Me or Kambala or Blinken can say whatever they freaking like. B4 Pooty went all stupid, Germany or France or Spain would have torpedoed any move to add Ukraine to NATO. Yes, even the “least” member has the absolute right to do so under NATO rules.
I wonder what Uncle Sam would do if native Hawaiins and like minded Haole voted to declare independance. The U.S reluctantly respected the outcome. The majority of world nations also. The new Hawaii regime went all out to eradicate what they saw as American imperialism and colonising. Restructing English. Oppressing the non allied Haole. What would uncle Sam then do if T.V images showed yanks being bullied, beaten, killed. The drumbeat to invade would start up. All the crap about sovereign this and sovereign that would go out the window
Then what the hell was Russia doing in occupying Kharkiv Oblast with clear intention of staying? Kharkiv Oblast has not been “Russian” for a long time.
If alleged mistreatment of Albanian muslims by Serbia served as the pretext for using military means against sovereign Serbia, I can’t ge5 why westerners who supported the Nato war, get their knickers in a twist if Russia is doing pretty much doing the same, ie supportibg what they see as oppressed Russians. And slicing up a sovereign country to do it. I guess muslims are higher up the pecking order in Europe
Probably a little bit of land grab buffering. I don’t think russians are anymore or less opportunistic than other powers.
Perhaps the Russians in Ukraine should have called on Nato to help them seperate from Ukraine.
Wake me up when the fat lady starts warming up for her solo.
This back and forth bickering about who is the bad guy is making me dizzy. It seems to me this is a long standing issue between these two countries. Long history.
I just want to see it over with so both sides can chill and move on. That’s what I’m rooting for.
Trade works both ways. Russia needs what is buys with oil money to run its economy and grow food too. Russia has stopped reporting some economic indicators.
Sanctions and energy will cause pain in the short term. Everyone knows that. Now can anyone please explain how Russia comes out ahead in the long run?
Ah, an important point, blissfully ignored by too many...
I concluded Poroshenko was corrupt, but, he came back early on to Kyiv to lead a street brigade when he could have just stayed in Poland. He prolly figures it's worth a pardon - might be right. Pretty ballsy, in any event.
Not too much to argue with in the rest of your post. However, I do think Putin's desire to eliminate Ukraine as an up and coming competitor with EU help and curbing of corruption, and lots of recently found energy resources, plays into his move.
Boy, are you naïve.
In some respects, this is literally a clash of civilizations: Most Ukrainians (esp. those under 50) want to go with the West, even if it is flawed. The West would love to cooperate and integrate Ukraine’s resources (all the more, now that Russia’s behavior is clear.) Countries like Poland have been pretty successful — Russia cannot have a Poland, with Ukraine’s resources, on it’s border. Russia has the old Asian “conquest and control” mindset still ingrained.
Hoping for a quick end to such clashes, unless one side is severely defeated, is likely fruitless. Sad to say.
The eu will lose as russia sells all the oil it needs to the rest of the world including china but mot to the eu states.
Game over eu.
Well,it’s not racism if it’sagainst Germans...same old, same old.
An least Desert Rhino doesn’t go on about “human rights” or some other leftwing, clandestine racist pabulum like that.
No offense intended :-), but so many times in history have alliances changed after they had “outlived” their usefulness to the contracting parties?
Quite a few times. :-)

“Prices for gas and electricity are exploding, driving companies into bankruptcy. . . .Bread, rolls, cakes and cupcakes — that’s what the Plaz Bakery is famous for. . .
But right now, Plaz no longer knows whether he can stay in business. At the end of August, he received mail from his gas supplier. Instead of the previous €721 ($719) per month, he will now have to pay €2,588 for heating and hot water from October 1, 2022. That doesn’t even include the costs for the baking oven. Plaz has a gas contract that secures delivery at the old price until the end of the year.
But if the gas prices continue to rise, the baker may well be looking at an annual gas bill of €42,000 for the oven alone, up from currently €12,000.”
Even if Berlin Freeper were a German, he could never be as demented as you appear to be. Very sorry.
