Amtrak canceling all long-distance trains starting tomorrow

Amtrak will cancel all long-distance trains beginning on Thursday to avoid disruptions in advance of a potential rail worker strike later this week.

An Amtrak spokesperson said the changes will ensure trains can reach their destinations before the strike, which could begin as early as Friday, and the adjustments could soon extend to other routes.

Amtrak is not involved in the contract negotiations between rail workers and freight companies, but many of its trains run on railroads owned by third parties that would shut down if a strike takes place.

The Democrat Party isn’t just corrupt. It is also incompetent.

“...the changes will ensure trains can reach their destinations before the strike”

When did an Amtrak train reach its destination ever?

Radio analyst (no one is a seer) believes the billion or two per day lost in a strike will mean it can’t go on long.

But will ruin any supposed avoidance of a big recession anyway.

He said the price increases caused by the huge pay increases
(he said currently average is $100,000 plus $30,000 of benefits) will have to result in companies charging more for everything soon after the strike ends.

Not within meeting distance. An hour drive.

I always thought it was really odd that Amtrak stopped all its trains for an hour when daylight savings time transitions to standard time.

Long distance? You can’t even take the train to where you want to go anymore. I checked into taking the train from central NY State, to Indianapolis, Indiana, and there are no commuter trains that could get me there. There is no train that goes to the western part of the State. I specifically called and talked to someone in Amtrak’s ticket office, and they confirmed that there was no way I could get there by train. My father worked on the New York Central Railroad for over 50 years. He retired not long after they became Penn Central. If he were alive today, he’d be devastated to see what has been done to the rail system and the country. He came here from Holland at the age of 8 in 1912, was naturalized, and an FDR Democrat his whole life. He would not recognize the party today.

Pete Buttigieg Fail. This is what happens when incompetent people are put in In Real Life (IRL) jobs.

He recently pushed to re-activate Amtrak lines that haven't been used in 70 years. At least some travelers got three months on those lines.

Lay down a bunch of new tracks, repair some bridges, and then shut it all down.

Union Pacific trains haul coal in cars over a mile in length daily in Texas to feed the coal fired electric power plants. If those stop then here comes the power blackouts. Solar and wind are a puny percentage of the power used in this country. Talk about a democRAT driven destruction of our country. This should really inspire people to vote RAT in November!

Great story about your dad! But take heart, he may not here with you anymore, but thanks to the Democrat Party, he never stopped voting.

For long distance routes, like the Southwest Chief, Amtrak is dependent on BNSF tracks + dispatch.

The last Southwest Chief crossed Missouri this morning.

Is the Northeast Corridor still running? Amtrak owns the corridor line.

Where’s Willie Green when you need him?

"When did an Amtrak train reach its destination ever?"

The two times I took an Amtrak train to New York City, the first time, on the way back home, someone deliberately walked into the train ahead of us, and we had to stop and take on those passengers, and the second time, on the way back home, we had to stop because bad weather had caused the signal lights to malfunction. It certainly isn't my father's railroad, or the one I remember from my childhood. Because my father worked for the NY Central Railroad, we used to ride free on the train. Believe me when I say, that those trains were always on time, and in all the times we rode them in the 50's and 60's, no matter where we went on them, we never had to stop and wait for anything.
