“...the changes will ensure trains can reach their destinations before the strike”
When did an Amtrak train reach its destination ever?
The two times I took an Amtrak train to New York City, the first time, on the way back home, someone deliberately walked into the train ahead of us, and we had to stop and take on those passengers, and the second time, on the way back home, we had to stop because bad weather had caused the signal lights to malfunction. It certainly isn't my father's railroad, or the one I remember from my childhood. Because my father worked for the NY Central Railroad, we used to ride free on the train. Believe me when I say, that those trains were always on time, and in all the times we rode them in the 50's and 60's, no matter where we went on them, we never had to stop and wait for anything.
I took the Empire Builder from Seattle several times to Chicago; great fun, always got there on time.

Often. But on time? Not so much.

Huh? A family member took an Amtrak train the other day and arrived 40 min early. So yes they do reach their destinations.
Have you traveled on Amtrak recently? Or ever?
I have multiple times…over decades. Trains ran either on time or just a few minutes late…but as frequently a minute or so early if everyone was on board. Many many Trips to Philly and also Autotrain.
I’m sorry you apparently had different experiences. They’re not perfect…but not the worst, either
