Women seeking an abortion in Hungary must listen to a "foetal heartbeat" before they can undergo the procedure as the country tightens its abortion laws.
The decree states healthcare providers must provide pregnant women with "a clearly identifiable indication of foetal vital signs" before proceeding with an abortion.
In a statement, Hungary's Interior Ministry said "nearly two-thirds of Hungarians associate the beginning of a child's life with the first heartbeat".
It said modern equipment can detect heartbeats early in pregnancy to provide "more comprehensive information for pregnant women".
Aron Demeter, from Amnesty International Hungary, said the decree was a "very alarming step back" which "basically puts women already in a difficult position into a more difficult position".
He told Sky News: "The only 'achievement' of this amendment will be that people trying to access abortion will be more traumatised and more stressed."

The first thing to do is see if the mother has a heart...beat.
Why is “foetal heartbeat” in quote? Is there doubt that the child’s heart is beating?
Personal note: I became pro-life many years ago (I was still an atheist at the time) after a nurse of my acquaintance showed me an ultrasound of a fetus.
A better move would be to just deny abortions
Abortionists lie to women. They tell pregnant women they’re carrying a clump of cells or “tissue.”
The ultrasound shows women they are carrying a baby with a heartbeat and tiny hands and feet.

That would be a good decision- I have spent quite a bit of time in Hungary and I can tell you that their society, in general, is very squared away.....
The roles between men and women are very well defined, and they are an unusually polite and intelligent people.

this is a better option imho. If you ban abortions - here in Poland we allow abortions ONLY for 1. danger to mother’s life/health, 2. rape/incest, 3. foetal “health” (euphemism to kill Down’s syndrome babies) and when we tried to ban it for #2 and #3, the outcry was huge by feminazis etc. that there was a fear that they would get abortion legalized.
