Upending the political debate, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham introduced a nationwide abortion ban Tuesday, sending shockwaves through both parties and igniting fresh debate on a fraught issue weeks before the midterm elections that will determine control of Congress.
Graham’s own Republican Party leaders did not immediately embrace his abortion ban bill, which would prohibit the procedure after 15 weeks of pregnancy with rare exceptions, and has almost no chance of becoming law in the Democratic-held Congress. Democrats torched it as an alarming signal of where “MAGA” Republicans are headed if they win control of the House and Senate in November.
“America’s got to make some decisions,” Graham said at a news conference at the Capitol.
The South Carolina Republican said that rather than shying away from the Supreme Court’s ruling this summer overturning Roe vs. Wade’s nearly 50-year right to abortion access, Republicans are preparing to fight to make a nationwide abortion ban federal law. […]
Reaction was swift, fierce and unwavering from Democrats who viewed Graham’s legislation as an extreme example of the far-right’s hold on the GOP, and as a political gift of self-inflicted pain for Republican candidates now having to answer questions about an abortion ban heading toward the midterm elections. …

Well, his real intention is to screw up the mid-terms for the GOP.
But the fact is, the 10th is trumped by the 14th, the 1st, and the 5th when it comes to the right to life, liberty, and property.
Dobbs was a “Missouri Compromise” attempt to two-step away from acknowledging that a baby is a person. In my opinion, the Court cannot escape this. But Grahamnesty has no concern about that. His concern is torpedoing the GOP red wave.
The idea that Graham is MAGA is laughable. Or mere gaslighting.
Bingo - a skunk saboteur.
All of sudden he’s some big pro-lifer, weeks out from the midterms.
I think his intention is to show how radical the democrats are. He based this proposal the abortion laws in Europe. It shows how out of step the democrats are.
No; the Tenth is not “trumped” by any other amendment. The matters of life, liberty and prosperity do not overshadow the rights of the states and vice versa; the wording of the Tenth is clear on that.
The Constitution left the definition of a person to the states and still does. I would say we agree that Graham’s intent is to wipe all Constitutional tenets away by this move.
The phrase “abortion laws in Europe” has no definition. The EU is very pro-abortion and intends to sweep away any restrictions in all of its member states and even beyond.
He doesn’t have to reach across the aisle while in the Uniparty.
Another lesser-of-two-evils placeholder on a seat from South Carolina.
Nation wide again? No! Let the states decide legislatively the laws they will have. At least then we can know who to support or get rid of in our own respective states. Isn’t that what the SC just decided anyway? Now you want to make another one size fits all ‘Federal’ law?
Forget it Jack, you’re trying to make it de-facto legal to abort for 15 weeks, when some states don’t want any abortions at all.
How do we ever rid the senate of this loser?
The rest of the party needs to reject this loudly. Mitch should say it’s DOA.
Yes, it does. The very ORDER of the amendments tells you all you need to know.
You will not see the Tenth cited anywhere in court cases regarding right to life that I am aware of.
It’s interesting that even Justice Roger Taney, the most radical judge ever when it came to redefining slaves as property, did not cite it.
And who, exactly, was Lady G seeking to persuade in this regard, hmm? Fellow Republicans? Don't they, uh, believe this already? Or was he speaking to supporters of the Democratic party? How many do you imagine he'll be able to persuade?
There was the very bad news about high inflation last month and the stock prices going down today. Lindsey wanted to remind people that they need to vote democrat.
Liberals: Overturning Roe v. Wade bans abortion!
Pro-lifers: No, it doesn’t. It just punts the decisions back to the states.
Linda Grahamnesty: Hold my beer . . .
Closed primaries in SC.
What is Graham up to? Why does he want to change the whole narrative?
Lindsey Graham is the Joe Biden of the Republican Party: he loves to hear himself talk, and he is always racing for the camera, but at the end, it’s only talk.
Also, the guy has been wrong on just about every issue where he actually did something.
SUPREME COURT SAID IT’S A STATE ISSUE DUMBASS LINDSAY-GIRL
