Biden Adviser Sperling: August Inflation Report Not What Anyone ‘Wanted to See,’ But Year-over-Year Fell and Things Will Improve
Breitbart ^ | 09/13/2022 | Ian hatchett

On Tuesday’s broadcast of Bloomberg’s “Balance of Power,” Senior Adviser to President Joe Biden Gene Sperling said that the August inflation report is “not the report that I think anybody wanted to see,” and failed to meet the expectations of the market, but “headline inflation has basically been flat for two months in a row.” And the year-over-year number declined. Sperling also argued there are some things that might take time to work their way into the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and there are “a lot of signs that core inflation will be moving in the right direction.”

Sperling stated, [relevant remarks begin around 34:50] “One cannot deny that we were hoping for better. I think everyone was hoping for better on the core inflation numbers. That said, while this didn’t meet, obviously, the market’s expectations, and not our hopes either, it’s important to recognize that, basically, inflation has been — headline inflation has basically been flat for two months in a row. You still saw the number — the year-over-year number come down. You see positive places like gas prices were down 8% in July, 11% in August, overall energy prices are down 5%.”

All lies and obfuscation all the time. If Trump were in office they would blame him for backed up drains and dusty floors.

Inflation will likely improve when the bottom drops out of the economy which will be happening very soon.

Jimmah Carter’s economic plan sucked, the only saving grace for me was I was in college and I had a 10-speed so I wasn’t affected by high gas or rationing. But still... there’s no reason for that in a country with our resources. This is just plain old nincompoopery.

In the last two weeks, gas rose from $4.99 to $5.45 in this city. The average rent in this city for a krap apartment is $1700. Grocery and energy prices are sky high. And the average income is just over 35 kilobucks. Despite this, the hipster bars in midtown are always packed, and I have no doubt this city will once again vote heavily for demonrats. The mathematics of this baffle me. I do not understand how the average person in this city can possibly get by here.

To be flat would imply that an apple that sold for 80cents in June is still selling at 80cents now. He is using Democrat weasel speak. I think he means the RATE of inflation is flat. Welcome news to all those eating crappier apples due to rising costs.

Yup. We have made changes. Can no longer afford crispy granny smith apples but eating apples that taste like sludge. No more steak dinners for the family. Filling up on rice. Can no longer afford cereal which is insanely expensive. Use to be able to get a box of cheerios for $1.00 a couple years ago now $5 and above.

Liberals are no using the second derivative to obfuscate their records. The rate of change of the rate of change.

Probably work with their base, I imagine.

Yes, my father pointed that out to me long ago. If the zeroith derivative isn't selling your story, try the first derivative. If that doesn't look good, maybe the second derivative will give you what you need.

You go far enough out on the Taylor series, you're going to find a positive coefficient eventually. Unless you're in an exponential death spiral, of course.
