The Washington Post Editorial Board is calling on Pennsylvania’s Democrat nominee for U.S. Senate, John Fetterman, to release his medical records and to engage in multiple debates with his Republican opponent Mehmet Oz.
Fetterman suffered a stroke in May and has struggled with his words at public events since. He has also been dodging a debate with Oz, who has committed to six debates. On Monday, the Post’s editorial board called on Fetterman’s campaign to release his medical records:
"The campaign’s response to questions about Mr. Fetterman’s health is to point to a doctor’s note, released more than 14 weeks ago, which said ‘he should be able to campaign and serve in the U.S. Senate without a problem’ if he takes his medications and exercises.
That’s not good enough. Mr. Fetterman is asking voters for a six-year contract without giving them enough information to make sound judgments about whether he’s up for such a demanding job. We have called for full disclosure of health records from candidates for federal office in both parties, including Donald Trump and Joe Biden, and we believe Mr. Fetterman should release his medical records for independent review."
Additionally, the editorial board is pressuring Fetterman to engage in more than one debate with Oz, noting that at least one matchup should be “before voters start casting their ballots.”

🚨🚨🚨 Even the Washington Post agrees—Fetterman needs to stop misleading Pennsylvanians.
If he’s scared to defend his soft-on-crime positions, he should say so. https://t.co/fKg6n2vdsl— Tom Cotton (@TomCottonAR) September 12, 2022
What did Fetterman do to p*** off the Washington Post Editorial Board?
He’ll release that information after he becomes Senator. Or maybe he won’t.
Dr. Oz on Tucker: "[Fetterman] has not agreed to a debate ... either you are healthy enough to debate — because your team keeps saying you're healthy — and you want to hide these radical ideas you've been throwing out there on Twitter ... or you're lying about your health." pic.twitter.com/p8noBiKjrO— Washington Free Beacon (@FreeBeacon) September 13, 2022
💥BOOM!💥
Oz should just debate an empty chair 6 times.
John Fetterman continues to contradict himself. Fetterman says that he is well, but won’t agree to a debate because of his health. pic.twitter.com/ZggSIJFAfM— Dr. Mehmet Oz (@DrOz) September 12, 2022
The guy is NOT capable of being a senator, EVEN WaPo can see that GEEZE we don’t need two mentally unstable people in such high positions of government!! Fetterman is an utter mess!!
He hasn’t pissed them off. They are alarmed at the prospect of losing that race.
Even the @washingtonpost Editorial Board is calling out @JohnFetterman for being too much of a coward to debate @DrOz.
Fetterman wasn’t transparent about his health and now doesn’t want to answer questions about his radical views. https://t.co/2xLrfBNp4X— Rick Scott (@ScottforFlorida) September 12, 2022
He needs to be raided and his personal medical records confiscated!
Not to worry — he plans to release killers, rapists and drug dealers from the prisons.
That’ll make you forget all about his medical records.
The check bounced.
The pic in #2 looks like he’s thanking his parole officer.
The internal polling must not be all that good if the WAPO is turning against Fetterman.
I heard some commentators say that The Post would like Fetterman to withdraw, so that a new nominee can be on the ballot.
But I don’t know what the process is to replace a nominee who’s already won a primary election. I’m sure each state has different laws and regulations on that.
Even so didn’t Democrats in New Jersey a few years ago replace a nominee due to health issues? I don’t remember the details but I remember somehow they actually went around New Jersey laws on putting a new candidate on the ballot close to an election.
Oz should do this and if the media won’t do it. Just pay for the venue himself. Bring third party candidates in to give it an air of legitimacy.
