Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed his forces have taken back over 3,000 square kilometres (~74,000 acres) from Russia within the last two weeks.

Ukrainian forces have reportedly recaptured 3,000 square kilometres (~74,000 acres) of lost territory from Russia since the start of September, President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed, in what appears to be the latest momentum shift in the conflict between the warring states.

Didn’t NATO break the “peace streak” by bombing the hell out of Yugoslavia?

That's why I said "major war". We have two nations with a combined population of nearly 200 million slugging it out now.

Not every Russian vehicle is marked with a Z. Some units use a V, the unit pictured use the symbol shown.

Does anyone know what the writing on this vehicle actually means?

Throwing money alone would not have worked. The key here is the willingness of Ukrainians to defend their homeland.

Their will combined with aid from US and NATO allies made it work.

Exactly so. The Ukrainians have proven they can make good use of aid.

Enough of your total bullsh$t.

A list of domestic political concerns is a distraction and does NOT make the psychotic pos in the Kremlin a friend, savior, or anything positive.

We have enemies foreign and domestic and Putin and his communist/ Muslim allies are foreign enemies.

Get your damn head screwed on straight and stop the kook propaganda.

We have to protect this country within and without and there is no shortcut.

Take your Yugoslavia story and shove it. The Serbians were the racist neonazis in that war and I don’t care if they had been choir boys.

It has ZERO to do with the Russian attack on the Ukraine and the strategic issues involved for the United States and the world.

You want to compare an ass pimple (Serbia) with cancer (Putin) and I’m not playing.

This is 2022 we don’t have a time machine to debate unrelated long ago events and beat ourselves up over it.

Focus.

Yesterday 1000 square Km was reported, now 3000 which as corrected is 741,000 acres, NOT 74K. We English speakers sometimes have trouble with our metrics. Three thousand kilometers is roughly a square 35 miles by 35 miles. For very rough calculating there are about 3 square kms in a square mile.

If the city to the south of Khirkiv that was taken is in fact a major Russina supply depot, that is very good news, especially if it was captured more or less intact. Hopefully, this new danger will draw more Russians away from the Kherson offensive, at least to the extent they can move, given destruction of bridges, and Uke offensive moves.

I don’t know about all the last 5 wars fought by US, but th Iraw war of 1991 was a direct response to the invasion of Kuwait. My son was “on mission” with the 82nd Airborne that month an in one week he was in Saudi Arabia defending them and Kuwait from an Iraq takeover of all their oil (which we had need of), although they were not part of NATO, and there was also a humanitarian objective. Afghanistan was a direct response to the US 9/11 attacks we honored today and had nothing to do with NATO. Russia is a direct ally of the Syrian dictatorship which has destroyed many of its own people and as such has come up against our troops in Iraq, certainly not winning any love from the US under Trump or Biden. I reserve my opinion as to whether our govt was legimately elected on 11/3/20, since 60 out of 61 courts determined that NO election fraud sufficient to change the election in that case was proven. More than 20 of the judges in those cases had been appointed by President Trump. Based on more recent court rulings (Roe v Wade, and Special Master) I would say Trump’s appointees have been quite faithful to their appointer.

Yugoslavia was the creation of Tito, a strongman who united various small groups, many of which hated each other, into something called a country. Afghanistan is similarly composed of tribal groups with independent strong men which often are in conflict with one another. Once the USSR broke up, and Tito was gone, these Yugo internal conflicts burst out and the various groups wanted their own countries. Heavy fighting occurred among them and also episodes of ethnic cleansing against Muslims living there. There was no “peace streak” for NATO to break.

Here is a summary statement at the top of a Google page when I asked for links on “reasons for the breakup of Yugoslavia.” I saw no mention of NATO in titles of various links offered.

“The varied reasons for the country’s breakup ranged from the cultural and religious divisions between the ethnic groups making up the nation, to the memories of WWII atrocities committed by all sides, to centrifugal nationalist forces.”

I tried to look at your link, but clicking the instructions in the window and below the window did nothing. When I clicked “Download” in the upper right corner, it sent me to a detailed page that my limited computer skills did not comprehend.
