New Hampshire will close its primary season on Tuesday with a showdown between a Republican moderate and a far-right candidate, analysts say could jeopardize Republicans’ chances of winning back the Senate majority.
Republicans are poised to nominate Don Bolduc, a Trumpy candidate who has expressed support for repealing the 17th Amendment, which allows direct election of senators. He has also embraced former President Donald Trump’s claims that the election was stolen.
The winner of the Republican primary will face incumbent Democratic Senator Maggie Hassan, whose seat is seen as crucial to the Republican roadmap to regain control of the Senate Chamber.
If Bolduc lands the nomination on Tuesday, experts say his eligibility could be a roadblock for Republicans heading to November.
“He’s kind of a lone wolf,” said Tom Rath, a former National Republican Committee member and adviser to several GOP presidential candidates, including George W. Bush and Mitt Romney. Rath noted that Bolduc does not have the support of notable Republicans or organizations.
Bolduc, a retired brigadier general, has angered New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, a popular Republican with a high 60% approval rating, according to a recent St. Anselm College poll.

Thanks for your opinion Snow Mexican.
“Rath noted that Bolduc does not have the support of notable Republicans or organizations.”
So he’s good goods.

University of New Hampshire poll found that Bolduc had an increasing lead over Morse – 43%-22%.
“He is not a serious candidate,” Sununu said on WGIR radio. He said that even if Bolduc is the nominee, he will not support a conspiracy theorist type candidate.
But the guy at 22% is a serious candidate? Sununu is an idiot.
If he can get elected.
Sununu(s) have been idiots for years...old farts and women vote name recognition, though... :-(
Never knew anybody from NH that liked that crappy gang.

A hit piece masquerading as news. That they quote someone who was an advisor for Romney’s campaign says everything.
The old order changeth, yielding place to the new?
Plenty of my former neighbors did...
Sununu is not an idiot. He’s a worthless POS.
We need the seat. NH is no longer live free or die. What do the real ‘experts’ think? California conservatives nominated Bill Simon Jr. to go against a vulnerable Gray Davis in 2002 and the results were disastrous-right when California could go either way. Sharon Angle-don’t get me started.
I always thought the old Sununu was alright. A real a—hole. Did himself in. Did not go along to get along.
The right views, apparent fortitude, and speaks and handles himself well.
I believe Buldoc will be the nominee. New Hampshireites really don’t care for Sununu either but a republican, even a rino, is better than a socialist democrat.. That’s the gist I get from mid-state.
No biased reporting there, nope, none at all...
MAGA candidates are moderate though. Its that RINOs just so happen to be democrats.
Neocons are big government war mongering globalists so they aren’t exactly “moderate” either.
Securing the border and voting integrity are both mainstream opinions. If I recall over 80% of Americans support voter ID laws. Not that I take much polling seriously but its pretty consistent over the years.
Before Trump I don’t recall any serious candidates supporting open borders and illegal immigrants (that includes Democrats). Now the fact that they didn’t do anything about it doesn’t change the fact that they supported border security in public.
What's the issue with his eligibility?
Sununu doesn’t like Bolduc?
Another dynast dinosaur ignoring the approaching MAGA asteroid.
