Municipal deputies are 100s per region. 200 of them drafted anti Putin documents in February right after the attack on Ukraine. They are nearly all from opposition parties and largely insignificant because none of them are members of the Duma.
It’s roughly the equivalent of 5 members of a city council in Louisville Kentucky standing up and demanding the FBI arrest Biden for treason.
If we saw that story we would do two things:
Recognize it as something VERY POSSIBLE to overstate as to the significance.
And that would be a result of evaluating them as wackos.
Maybe they’ll community service and probation.
St Petersburg is the second largest city in Russia and the traditional home of revolutionary politics, and Putin is from there. So this is no small potatoes, the analogy would be more like if a big-city mayor or even an important state governor called for these measures not as stated a small town in Kentucky (although I don’t look down at that sort of place as I live in a small town myself).
Not being a rabid Putin supporter like some, even though I have some misgivings about Ukraine, I think these men are doing the right thing and I pray for their success. They are brave to stand in the coliseum and invite the lions and leopards and bears to come after them (and yes, that is a deliberate choice, look it up).

Louisville is not a small town. Louisville Metro is 1M people from a state whose senator is Minority Leader.
And municipal deputies are not mayors of any size city. They are city council member equivalents. In fact, not even that. They supervise painting parking stripes at city hall’s parking lot.
These are insignificant people.
