South Carolina senators reject a near-total abortion ban

South Carolina senators rejected a ban on almost all abortions Thursday in a special session called in the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade after five Republicans, including all the chamber's women, refused to support it.

The 30 Republicans in the 46-member chamber had a majority to pass the ban, but did not have the extra votes to end a threatened filibuster by Republican Sen. Tom Davis.

If this does not sound like abortion being debated in any democrat-ran state I don’t know what does. Tom Davis is a RINO who used to work for RINO Gov Mark Sanford. SC politics is loaded to the gills with RINOs and MSNBC this morning is having a field day saying SC is proof that the entire country wants abortion on demand.

Davis, the chief of staff for former Gov. Mark Sanford before being elected to the Senate in 2009, was joined by the three Republican women in the Senate, a fifth GOP colleague and all Democratic senators to oppose the proposed ban.

Davis said he promised his daughters he would not vote to make South Carolina's current six-week abortion ban stricter because women have rights, too.

"The moment we become pregnant we lost all control over what goes on with our bodies," Davis said, recalling what his daughters told him. "I'm here to tell you I'm not going to let it happen.

It’s great, however, to see the debate being returned to the states.

I’m still kind of walking on air from Roe v Wade being overturned. When this was first passed, me and a lot of other young gals were quite happy - but I’m pretty sure most of us didn’t realize what it meant. I sure didn’t! I was working off being brainwashed and that whole process took a while. Many schoolteachers - including Roman Catholic nuns and catholic lay people - had taken the easier path of filling my head with self-destructive BS instead of knowledge. (It’s not 100% their fault by any means: I’ve been an avid consumer of self-destructive BS since early childhood.)

RINOs are a blight, that’s for sure. Let’s hope that the upcoming election fixes a lot of things. In light of how hard the faux-Right seems to be working to usher in a huge disappointment for the GOP, some prayer will be helpful, too.
