Ukraine has launched a new front in the counteroffensive, this time moving east into the Kharkiv region. Yesterday the Guardian reported the town of Balakliia had been encircled by Ukrainian troops.

Today, Balakliia is more than encircled. President Zelensky just published this video of Ukrainian soldiers standing on a Russian flag in the city with the Ukrainian flag flying behind them.

(snip)

And the push east has already moved on to another small town called Volokhiv Yar where the Ukrainian flag has also been raised.

“The city of Balakliia, Kharkiv Oblast, is under (Ukrainian) control. The order is complete.” (Video)

Civilians are greeting #Ukrainian liberators in #Balakliia

The Ukrainian flag is raised over the village of Volokhiv Yar, which was occupied for 6 months.

There were numerous accounts early on of Russian plants/sympathizers marking building as targets for Russian aircraft/missiles. It’s just fine with me if the Ukes are taking out those guys. As much as anything tactical it looked like there might be a lot of grudge settling?

“And now you’re rooting for hit squads.”

As if you didn’t root for the Russian hit squads when they invaded.

What’s your point? Ivan started a war. What’s the problem if the Ukes fight back?

“As much as anything tactical it looked like there might be a lot of grudge settling?”

Always in this type of conflict. Which is why it doesn’t pay to be an enemy collaborator, especially when the lines are still fluid. It’s not like the Russian Army is going to take you with them if they retreat.

Kharkov (Uke: Kharkiv) is Ukraine-occupied enemy territory for them.

Its >80% Russian speaking. The Western Ukrainians don’t like the locals, and you can imagine, the feeling among the locals is mutual. Most Pro-Ukraine civilians left months ago, which is why the Ukraine Army has no compunction about keeping its munitions hidden in populated civilian areas.

Things are going very well for the Liberal World Order the last couple days. Russia and the Allies are getting pushed back hard.

Hit squads.

Taking out the traitors helping the enemy.

Don't see anything wrong with that.

The sick ones are those that would condone or forgive or turn a blind eye to the traitors in their midst.

Ukraine and the west started this war, and knew full well what they were doing. But ether way, to root for hit squads to kill people without any due processes is just a very sick and evil thing.

Assassinating local officials who kept their towns, offices, and services going = “ collaborators”

People who accepted or passed out humanitarian relief aid =
“ collaborators”

People with Russian phone or website contacts on their personal devices = “collaborators”

Anyone who is critical of the regime, turned in by a neighbor for a $100
bounty = “ collaborators’

What a happy society

It’s standard practice in formerly occupied territories for collaborators to be summarily executed (e.g., liberated Netherlands and France in WW2). Would a legal trial and judgment be preferred? Perhaps, but who’s to says that the liberated areas stay liberated? The war isn’t over yet and the practice has the effect of “pour encourager les autres” on potential future collaborators to have second thoughts.

Russian speakers in Kharkov are pro-Ukrainian. Zelensky is a Russian speaker. Many thousands of Russian speakers from the Donbas are fighting on the Ukrainian side.

Sounds like you'd be more at home in the DU, or at CNN. Next you'll be attacking the "MAGA republicans".
