New Mexico Judge Removes Couy Griffin From Elected Office

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A prominent figure in New Mexico politics surrounding the events of the 2020 presidential election, Otero County Commission Couy Griffin has been removed from office based on a decision from a New Mexico district court judge. The decision also bars Griffin from holding public office again.

“I was disappointed and shocked,” said Griffin. The plaintiff’s attorneys are calling the decision historic.

“Both because it’s the first time in over 150 years that a judge has disqualified a public official for engaging in an insurrection. And, it’s also the first time a judge has ruled that January 6th was an insurrection,” said Christopher Dodd, one of the attorneys representing the plaintiffs.

Can a District Judge overturn an election, and can he determine that voters cannot elect someone to a local office? The people who filed this lawsuit don't live in the county Griffith served as commissioner.

Trespassing is not insurrection.
Opposing and protesting the results of an election is not insurrection.
This ruling needs to be overturned and the judge impeached.

This is a trial balloon. It will help the Dems establish legal precedent for removing Trump.

Likely go to appeal and reverse Judge’s insurrection judgment.

Can a District Judge overturn an election...?

Guess so. It happened in California with the anti-gay ballot initiative.

The judge who overturned it was a homosexual who retired immediately after rendering his decision.

Was he convicted of insurrection? If not, then this is a B.S. ruling.

This is more lawfare. Ignore the judge and just keep doing your elected job.

Opposing and protesting the results of an election is not insurrection.

Mr. Griffin needs to just continue to go to work and let his lawyers tell the judge where to get off the bus.

That’s what I thought. He was actually charged with trespassing, I think. He was held in solitary confinement and not allowed to see a lawyer for days.

So, now can any Democrat politician who used inflammatory rhetoric in 2020 (or since) - e.g., who called the country systemically racist and unjust, who defended BLM rioting and contributed to bail funds, who use words like “we must fight” or “we are at war with . . . “ - be removed from office and banned from ever running again?

They really selected their venue for this. Not only with a rabidly anti-Trump judge, but also where the first appellate level is anti-Trump.

And the appellate level above that is the US 10th circuit, which is 6 Democrat (5 Obama, 1 Biden) - 5 Republican appointees (3 G.W. Bush, 2 Trump).

“We are going full Soviet.”

No. In the Soviet Union he’d have been arrested and murdered in jail. Or, sent to Siberia.

The basement of the NKVD’s Moscow headquarters was built on an incline so they could wash the blood into the sewer.

A great example of you conduct political warfare. So the appeal will have to go up 3 levels before any chance of relief. The bring AR’s and the GOP brings crayons

Exactly. The judge can’t order a new election. The judge can’t take away your keys to the county offices, or order the nameplates changed. Just ignore him, he has no authority in the matter.

"Griffin plans on appealing the decision. After representing himself during trial, he plans on getting counsel this time."

Sorry. You represent yourself and you have a fool for a client.

In NM all the judges are rats. This will stand all the way through the NM Supreme Court where 4 of the judges were appointed by the rat gov.

So by the Judge’s twisted standards how is his ruling not an even more clear cut example of an “insurrection” since he is overturning an election?

It would appear Maxine Waters would not be able to serve, or ever run for office again, using the same logic the judge did.
