‘Europe caused energy crisis for itself’: Belgian city mayor

Europe has caused an energy crisis for itself by phasing out energy production, the mayor of Belgium's Antwerp city said in a television interview.

Bart De Wever, the Antwerp mayor and leader of the nationalist New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) party, gave an interview to the VRT television channel.

“This is, of course, not a crisis that (Russian President Vladimir) Putin has caused, but that Europe has brought on itself by phasing out its own primary energy production this century,” he asserted.

He explained that exploitation of oil, gas, and coal reserves was not allowed while “the dumbest countries, Germany and Belgium, have phased out nuclear energy in parallel.”

“We could once have made a lot of profit with the nuclear power plants, but now those assets are given away. I think it's a bit cheap that people now realize that it's not all that simple,” he said, referring to the previous Belgium government that decided to shut down two nuclear power plants.

“Belgium is bankrupt, we are the new Greece,” he underlined, adding that his country's public debt and government spending show a worse balance than in most of the Southern European countries that are often blamed for disrespecting budgetary discipline.

According to De Wever, Europe now has to deal with the consequences of “pushing away all energy sources, making ourselves dependent on Putin.”

Whatever happened to the PIGS (Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Spain)? Those southern European economies were all going to implode, I thought. Now Belgium says they are the new Greece. But does anything happen?

This is what happens when politicians sell out to the uneducated environmentalist mob.

The man-made climate change crowd has no plan and never has had a plan to replace hydrocarbon and nuclear power. They just want it to end NOW.

So, politicians keep reducing the amount of hydrocarbon and nuclear power as the mob wishes.

The mob is happy and the politicians stay in power.

Somebody (Klaus Schwab) in Europe is also forcing the agenda of the World Economic Forum on everybody there.

Now, I would bet that if the Europeans were to go in for a widespread program of fracking, there could be enough natural gas reserves found right in the European continent to more than supply their own needs, and even export a little. But since the “green” movement has convinced itself that the burning of natural gas, and the carbon dioxide that is one of the products of combustion of any carbon-based fuel is a “pollutant”, then nothing shall be done.

How did we get to where we are at?

When there is no money, & people are freezing to death, something will happen. Probably won’t be pretty.

Then the article closes with this…
“The EU executive body is expected to reveal proposals on reforming the EU energy market to reduce prices later on Wednesday.”
Is there anything more absurd and insane than expecting the people who caused the problem to fix it?

Going to have to indict this Bart De Wever on some process crime and throw the book at him.

The “fix” will be buying from Cuba, China, Venezuela, Iran, Syria, North Korea, etc.

Europeans, kill their own energy industry, then antagonize and start a war with your main supplier who had just completed another pipeline to deliver to you.

Yes, the media will refuse to report on it, and act like it’s “everyone’s duty to suffer a little in order to save the planet” while, they cover up the fsct that by “suffer” they of course mean die.

It will take massive regime change in most Western European countries to restore some common sense to them.

By “regime change” I don’t just mean voting politicians out. I mean that AND firing - simply firing - the army of bureaucrats who effectively govern in most cases.

What “happens” is that the value of the currency used in these countries goes into the toilet. Take a look at how badly the euro has declined against other global currencies over the last 18 months.
