Road Trip: Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania

PAnsamechanicsburg2

Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg is an 806 acres naval supply depot just outside of Mechanicsburg in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Largely industrial, and home to over 150 warehouses containing 8,800,000 square feet of storage space and other buildings, it is the headquarters of the Naval Supply Systems Command.

It is also the parent installation of Naval Support Activity Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Navy Yard Annex, which share the same commanding officer.

Presently NSA Mechanicsburg serves approximately 4,600 civilian, military and industry partners assigned to over 40 tenant activities or commands. Outside of the NAVSUP headquarters, the other three largest commands on the installation actually direct subordinates of NAVSUP—the Weapons Systems Support (formerly NAVICP) command and the Business Systems Center (formerly NAVSISA).

Other commands located on the base include the several Defense Logistics Agency commands, the NAVSEA Logistics Center, and the United States Army Reserve's 382nd Engineer Company.

Overall, NAVSUP personnel make up approximately 54% of the installation's population.

Fleet Readiness delivers high quality, customer-focused programs and services that contribute to military retention. Fleet Readiness is an integral part of installation management, directly affecting military readiness and supporting the quality of life needs of Sailors and their family members.

It is comprised of: Fitness, Sports and Deployed Forces Support; Recreation; Entertainment and Business; Lodging; Galley; Child and Youth Programs; and Other Community Support, which includes the Navy Voting Assistance Program.

The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) is the largest of the United States Navy's five "systems commands," or materiel organizations. From a physical perspective, NAVSEA has four shipyards for shipbuilding, conversion, and repair, ten "warfare centers" (two undersea and eight surface), the NAVSEA headquarters, located at the Washington Navy Yard, in Washington D.C., and other locations in 15 states and 3 overseas continents.

NAVSEA's primary objective is to engineer, build, buy, and maintain the U.S. Navy's fleet of ships and its combat systems. NAVSEA's budget of almost $30 billion accounts for nearly one quarter of the Navy's entire budget, with more than 80,200 personnel and 150 acquisition programs under its oversight.

Purely “recreational” labor...finished bringing down a weakened chestnut limb, picked a couple of quarts of tomatoes...and then waited for the rain.

Nice gentle, pulsing showers so far.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...hope you and Tippy and Blue had an enjoyable Labor Day.

We have had sun ALL day so far, with low 60s. Did spend about 15 minutes working on the sticker bush. Only got stuck twice...thru double gloves.

A Hole in the Wall
Read: Proverbs 25:16–28

Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. Proverbs 25:28

Something was eating my flowers. The day before, blooms proudly lifted their heads. Now they were headless stems. I prowled the perimeter of my yard and discovered a rabbit-sized hole in my wooden fence. Bunnies are cute, but the pesky animals can mow down a garden of flowers in minutes.

I wonder, might there be “intruders” shearing off the blooms of God’s character in my life? Proverbs 25:28 says, “Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” In ancient days, the wall of the city protected it against invasion from enemies. Even a small opening in a wall meant that the entire city lay open to attack.

So many of the proverbs are about self-control. “If you find honey, eat just enough,” wrote the wise man (25:16). Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit that guards us, protecting us from losing ground to impatience, bitterness, greed, and other pests that can intrude and destroy God’s harvest in our lives (see Galatians 5:22–23). Self-control is a healthy-mindedness that watches for the holes in the walls of our lives and keeps them patched.

When I inspect the perimeter of my life, I can at times see vulnerable holes. A spot where I give in to temptation over and over. An area of impatience. Oh, how I need the healthy-minded self-control of God in my life to guard me from such intruders!Elisa Morgan

What holes do you see in the wall of your heart? How might God’s fruit of self-control help guard your life from such an intruder?

Dear God, please grow the fruit of self-control in my life that I might be protected from intruders.

For further study, read Words Matter.

Howdy, PRO.

Have you had a good holiday weekend? Spend some time being entertained by those silly pups? LOL

Pretty quiet here except for Saturday night when Mother Nature unleashed on us.
