California officials have extended a “Flex Alert” in the midst of an energy shortage, advising residents to conserve electricity between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. Sunday, and to “[a]void using major appliances and charging electric vehicles” during the time.
The current “Flex Alert” has been in place for five consecutive days, amid a heat wave that is expected to last through the Labor Day weekend. California is short of energy because of its movement away from nuclear power and natural gas, and due to the fact that renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power can not yet make up the difference during times of peak consumer demand.

Solar powered vehicles for southwestern states. Self sustaining. “https://www.greencars.com/post/whats-next-solar-powered-electric-cars?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlcWQ8Jj7-QIVIHtvBB0IVQw1EAAYAiAAEgKONPD_BwE“
So what happens at 2100 hours when everyone plugs in, has their lights on, are watching tv, and cook a snack?
That’s a good reality check.
That will become the peak-usage time. A good excuse the raise the evening rates.
How long does it take to fully charge that $150,000 fantasy car?
“Now taking orders” = “Send us money and we’ll send you a promise of a fairy tale.”
What happens during a hurricane evacuation or blizzard when 100s or thousands of EVs are trapped in creeping gridlock for 12-72 hours?
Last winter in Virginia on I-95 a blizzard trapped a couple 100 cars overnight. The EVs ran out of juice, and were stranded for days because it was impossible to recharge them in place. It meant many, many tow trucks. That was with just a few percent EVs.
What happens when the fleet is 75-90% EVs and there is evacuation or blizzard gridlock? How do all the stuck cars get recharged? Magic?
Gasoline and diesel vehicles can simply be given a few gallons in a Jerry jug and they are on their way. Not so with EVs. They are SCREWED if 100s of them run out of juice between charging stations.
Saving the eart, nicely done.
Make America Groan Again.
We can’t say we weren’t warned.
They don’t want you to go ANYWHERE. That is the whole scheme. they mean to drastically limit where you can go of your own free will. They want to institute more lockdowns on a moment’s notice and hopefully starve/dehydrate all resistance to death
1. Mandate electric cars.
2. Fail to keep the lights on.
It’s genius, I tell you! Genius!
“How long does it take to fully charge that $150,000 fantasy car?”
If it’s sunny out, it will recharge itself as it is being used. I guess it will come down to the energy consumption rate vs the charging rate. As for 150k, like everything else, that price will come down. 300k Teslas have been sold so far in the US. I would bet those same owners could probably afford a solar powered vehicle.
Just leave the government out of it and the free market will take care of itself.
LOL! Reminds me of the 1970s when the demand was to fill your auto on alternating days, or depending on the license number.
Our area of the US never had gas rationing back then.
And all the leftists who have voted democrat only for decades are saying, “How could this happen??? It must be because of those dumb republicans.”
They will simply turn off the ability for your car to charge depending on the grid load. You’ll just have to wait until you can charge your car up.
Just like the power company can shut off your ac during peak loads. Many companies will offer lower rates if you give them this ability
What happened to all those ignorant people who claimed charging EVs was no worse than an afternoon electric peak?
Why don’t they Mandate the removal of all Freedoms and get it over with
