Kherson counter-offensive cheered by Ukrainians enduring Russian rule

The only city captured intact by Putin’s forces remains a hotbed of resistance and partisan activity.

It was the news many in Kherson had waited six months to hear. The Ukrainian counter-offensive launched this week to recapture the southern city was cheered by those who have suffered under Russian rule since Moscow’s forces took over in March.

Residents in Kherson, strategically located on the Dnipro river that cuts across the country, reported hearing missile strikes and explosions around the city, which had made the Russian patrol increasingly jumpy.

“The pro-Ukrainian activity of people who remain in Kherson is very high,” said one resident in his mid-40s. “People here closely follow events at the front, cheer for the armed forces and await the liberation of the city.”

“Explosions are happening every day,” said another Kherson resident, a pensioner. Like all those who spoke to the Financial Times by phone from the city this week, they asked that their names be withheld for their safety.

Kherson remains the only provincial Ukrainian capital captured intact by Russian forces since President Vladimir Putin ordered the full invasion of the country in February, and the only territory occupied by Russian forces that lies west of the Dnipro river.

“When the Russians first arrived, they were met by huge protests. A week later, a pro-Russian administrator was shot dead near his home. The most recent assassination came on Sunday, when a senior official in charge of agriculture at the Moscow-appointed administration was killed alongside his girlfriend.”

Meanwhile, Vlad holds 30 percent of Ukraine and has the EU brought to its knees…..and Crippling the West. Get used to the fact Vlad will never give up the ethnic Russian provinces.

What remains to be seen is if he eats Odessa, a city Catherine the great created in the 1700’s….if/ when he does, it’s lights out for the Ukies.

The only ethnic Russian province is Crimea, the other have majority Ukrainian populations. Get used to the fact that the Ukrainians will never put up with Russian rule.

Poland needs to be allowed to go in and mix it up directly with the Russians.

Tard, The eastern part of Ukraine voted heavily for the last democratically elected president of Ukraine and have rejected the US installed coup government and its successors. No one needs to be an “ethnic Russian” to reject the coup government and its Neonazi elements, especially when they have been making war in the Donbass for 8 years. Moreover, contrary to the Western press, Russia is doing quite well economically and is certainly a far more attractive partner than the Zelensky regime. So, there are other reasons for people to want not to be ruled from Kiev by US/NATO/Soros/WEF stooges. In the future, “Ukraine” will continue to exist as only a rump state. The Russians will have what they want, the Poles will probably take Galicia, and the Hungarians and Romanians may take small slices.

Wow. That's not even remotely close to being true. Just wishful thinking on your part, I guess.

The Ukrainians were slaughtered, you idiot. But, you hate Russia so much you don't care how many mothers lose sons, wives lose husbands or children lose fathers.

You're a sick sociopath. Russian hatred takes priority over all else. You have no regard whatsoever for human life.

Here's what you're cheering on:

https://www.moonofalabama.org/2022/09/the-ukrainian-counteroffensive-was-destined-to-fail-today-it-did-so.html#more

The number of Ukrainian casualties are huge. Reports from Odessa, Nikolaev and Kryvy Rih speak of thousands of wounded. Many more have died. Hundreds of Ukrainian tanks and infantry fighting vehicles were destroyed or captured by Russian troops.

The 128th mountain assault brigade from the Ukrainian Transcarpatia region was involved in the general attack and got destroyed. (Why use 'mountain assault' specialists in the open steppe?) The governor of the region reportedly ordered a day of mourning.

###

In total the 'counterattack' on Kherson was a complete failure that predictably ended up destroying Ukraine's main military reserves and a major part of the stock of heavy vehicles it had received from the 'west'.

What is left of the Ukraine is already being taken over by the Poles. The Ukraine is no more...it has ceased to be...this is an EX-country.

They are going from “The Great Kherson Counter-Offensive is a Smashing Victory!”

to “The Great Kherson Counter-Offensive was actually just a ‘spoiling attack’”

to “The Great Kherson Counter-Offensive was only a feint”

to “What Kherson Counter-Offensive?”

Reality: down the memory hole.

Not so easy for the families of the thousands of Ukrainians needlessly slaughtered to keep the NATO $$ pipelines flowing to the Uke oligarchs.

Resistance isn't winning a war. But it so often appears it doesn't take much to convince the Ukraines they're winning - but they aren't - and they won't.

This isn't winning either

How much longer are you going to justify the Russian invasion on the so-called coup? Yanukovych was removed from office by the democratically elected parliament after he had fled from the country. In the meantime there have been two free elections. Zelensky was voted into office by an overwhelming majority, including in those areas of Donbas that could freely participate.

As for the so-called referendum held in Donbas, it was held under military occupation by Russian surrogates. Even so, the referendum was for autonomy, not for independence or union with Russia. There have been no referenda in the provinces of Kherson and Zaporizhzhya, which have ethnic populations of 82% and 71% respectively.

Anybody taking bets on what the final map will look like?

Looking back, the deal that Bojo the Clown skuppered in April was a lost last best chance. It gave Russia what it already held in the Donbass and Crimea (Russian since Catherine the Great), in return for guarantees that Ukraine never join NATO.

How many tens of thousands have died or been maimed for life since Bojo blew up that deal? When the map will end up looking like below, very likely?

You so funny. You probably believe Biden got 81 million legit votes, (15 million more than Obama), and Trump was 100% a Russian spy.

I have no doubt Biden, in 2023, running the nation 100% with the cooperation of the corrupt CIA/NSA/FBI, and all the opposition MSM shut down, their bosses in jail, social media banning every conservative, could produce a red-blue USA map that shows the Republicans only won Oklahoma and the Dems won the other 49 states.

I have no doubt at all.
