Millions of Britons could be asked to limit energy use this winter to head off blackouts by avoiding using gas and electricity at peak times and turning off the lights on days when the wind doesn't blow, an energy expert has warned.
Kathryn Porter, from consultancy Watt-Logic, said it was possible households could be asked not to use energy guzzling appliances at peak hours or eat their dinner at a different time.

None of the idiots making these suggestions will follow them.
But you are to keep your telescreens on, no matter what.
But buy those electric vehicles... or else!
Coming soon to a country near you.

I expect them to come up with some sort of scheme where energy would become much more expensive during peak hours. After all, the peasantry must be made to comply, one way or another.
Cooking causes electrical use to rise, so do it after eight.
And then after eight becomes the new high energy period.
Duh!
Eating late at night is a bad idea. bad for your health.
Here’s an idea for renewable energy: put all the unemployed/welfare recipients on giant hamster wheels in 8-hour shifts. Will improve aerobic fitness and help them seek more gainful employment.
“turning off the lights on days when the wind doesn’t blow”
Hold on now, you are telling me that wind turbines ONLY generate electricity when the wind blows just right ?
(S)
That is one of the limitations I came to understand recently.
Wind turbines need a wind speed over about 15 mph and under 30mph to function. So, if the wind is too low they do not operate. If the wind is too high they can literally break apart.
Heating and cooking over burning furniture awaits the UK.
Few years ago Scots embarrassingly burned old encyclopedias in the winter to avoid freezing. This time they will burn anything and everything without embarrassment. This is what happens when you commit cultural suicide and embrace green lunacy. Britain, like Germany has closed its coal mines and has millions of tons of recoverable coal lying just beneath the surface.
All that will do is shift the peak hours.
It begs the question why didn’t someone realize that renewable energy is fickle and only works when the wind is blowing just right and the sun is shining. A modern society needs reliable and affordable energy and should not be looking to the rants of an autistic Swedish girl for policy advice.
They'll be outlawed in the future by the same folk who are turning off the world's lights.
All of this is government inflicted. There is enough energy available on this planet for all. It’s simply a matter of using it.
Energy shortages are all about control.
Wonder when XiDen brings up Dark Winter, for us, again.
Governments should do their job and stop terrorizing it’s citizens
Agree. As if Brits needed MORE things to cause ill health.
