Why the left shouldn't be crowing so loudly about that Sarah Palin defeat: Leftists may not be cheering in November

Well, the left has got one.  On Twitter and beyond, you've never heard such crowing.

According to Politico:

Democrat Mary Peltola has defeated Republican Sarah Palin in the special election for Alaska's vacant House seat, a big upset over the former governor in the state's first election under ranked-choice voting.

Peltola, a former state legislator who will become Alaska's first indigenous member of Congress, defeated a special election field that included Palin and another Republican, Nick Begich III. The Democrat finished first in the initial tally and then won enough second-choice votes from Begich's supporters to see off Palin, who had former President Donald Trump's endorsement and previously won a statewide campaign in 2006.

That 60% of the state could vote for a Republican, yet the seat should nevertheless go to a Democrat, is bitter news indeed for the Republicans.  Ranked-choice voting, which in Alaska was introduced in this election, where the voters whose candidate is eliminated get to vote a second time, through their second choices, pretty well left enough holes for the Democrats to walk away with the seat.

It's doubly sad because Sarah Palin had been the frontrunner and was attempting to make a political comeback.  Palin had been unjustly hounded from office as governor in 2009, following her stint as John McCain's running mate in 2008, attracting grotesque amounts of demonizing attention from the left, as well as from sleazy McCain staffers leaking from inside the campaign.  Her detractors painted Palin as a hick and spread lies about her as corrupt, ignorant, and phony.  It was a demonization that could only be compared to what they later did to Donald Trump, which is to say, Palin was the proto-Trump.  Had she won, it would have been poetic justice.

Instead, we got this:

If you had one shred of understanding that killing babies, literal babies, is an issue we can not simply drop….

You must have no idea how ghastly your argument is. If only the good people of Germany had dropped their notion that Jews and Gypsies had civil rights! If only the good people of the South and the Underground Railroad had just acquiesced to the enslavement, rape and abuse of Africans! Check the polls!

As to the pro life increment:

https://www.nrlc.org/archive/news/2002/NRL11/osteen.html

Do you not understand it is not just pro life v pro abortion polling. You must consider likely voters and then the weight each voter gives to the issue. Because prolifers vote much more consistently in the issue it is overall in your best interest politically to be pro life. This must be adjusted to each race/locale. To be pro life in SF will not win you elections. But if you are running for BART board it may not matter.

Regardless when we get to the point we are actually dismembering living unanesthetized people to death you have

Lost

Me. Get some moral courage.

Enjoy us being a permanent minority party with that type of fundamentalist thinking.

The ruling sent it back to the states...it did not end any abortions...and when Dems pack the courts...abortion will be back. Enjoy your pyrrhic victory!

Have you looked at

Any

Political history?

Every r president for decades has been prolife including Trump. Most of our Republican senators and congressmen too. How on earth did they win ?

The Republican Party has strong pro Life planks calling for among other things a Human Life Amendment to the Constitution.

You are in the wrong party - the Democrats are the ones promoting abortion as a winning and wonderful idea.

Well I guess you are in the wrong party. Who knows how you are registered? While glancing at the Republican Party platform you may want to take a look at FR’s pro life home page. Try posting at Democratic Underground they love your worldview there.

Florida is the only State that has actually passed legislation barring the use of RCV in any election. People need to get on the horn with their State legislators and push for this type of legislation. It's clear the Dems envision the adoption of this baked-in vote suppression across the Country. It MUST be stopped.

I guess you have missed that the vast majority of voters are pro-choice! Hell, you may be against drinking, but if you try to implement prohibition, you would get 2% of the vote!

They are pro choice to a limited degree. Not all nine months for any reason.

Also most care about that issue less than others.

Thus the demonstrable pro life increment. Which I guess you have decided to ignore.

I guess you have missed that string prolifers have been routinely elected ever since the pogrom against our unborn children started. No problem.

Our next Republican president will be pro life too whether it is Trump or DeSantis or whoever. They will not win the nomination without opposing abortion.

And to compare the killing of 2000 of our most innocent Americans daily to drinking alcohol just shows how far out of reality you are dialing in from.

They should not even make it a big part of their platform. Say they are for a late term ban and leave it at that.

Ranked-choice voting needs to go.

In Alaska, Repubs control the state senate, but in the House you appear to have some RINOs caucasing with the Democrats, thus giving Dems a 1-person majority

Please explain how Palin gets another chance in Nov. are the same candidates on the ballot? Is it the same method of voting? Why would the results be any different? It makes no sense to me.

Is it the leftists that caused Palin to lose? Or the Republicans who chose her as their number three choice over Begich? And if it’s the later then will Begich be running again in November?
