Democrat Mary Peltola was the apparent winner of Alaska’s special U.S. House race and is set to become the first Alaska Native in Congress, after votes were tabulated Wednesday in the state’s first ranked choice election.
Peltola led Republican former Gov. Sarah Palin after ballots were tallied and votes for third-place GOP candidate Nick Begich III were redistributed to his supporters’ second choices. Peltola, a Yup’ik former state lawmaker who calls Bethel home, is now slated to be the first woman to hold Alaska’s lone U.S. House seat.

Let that be a lesson for us. The laboratory of Alaska has proven ranked voting is moronic.
Rank choice voting is a scam, it undermines parties, and definitely undermines the spirit of one person, one vote
MSM is going to go bonkers about this.
Each party should select by ballot their own nominee. These exotic schemes should be made illegal in every state.
Hard core leftists in Maine supported Rank Choice voting.
The Rhino Repubican political establishment did nothing to oppose it; the first victime, the Republican Congressman from D-2.
Or democrats voted for the other Republican in the first round.
Nick Begich III Ran as a Republican on the ticket with Palin and diluted the vote allowing the Democrat to win.
Who in the world, voting for Begich, would rank the Eskimo commie second?
Rigged Choice Voting
I’d still make Sarah the 2nd choice. Not putting the commie dead last is stupid.
I agree with you, but there are people who don’t think the same way. We have to recognize that those people are out there and recognize that we have to build a coalition that can win.
You can’t do anything unless you win first.
We don’t need any more Akins, O’Donnells, Moores or Angles.
>> Republicans run against each other
Same reason we lost GA and its Senate seat in Jan, 2021.
None of these #ing a-holes are willing to put their fragile egos aside for the good of the Country.
Candidate | w/ 2nd place | 1st place | Primary |
Petola | 51.5 | 39.7 | 10.1 |
Palin | 48.5 | 30.9 | 27.0 |
Begich | 27.9 | 19.1 | |
Gross | w/d | 12.6 | |
others | 1.6 | 31.3 | |
TOTAL |
Even my state of Massachusetts wasn’t stupid enough to allow for rank choice voting.
Remember Sarah Palin and the Tea Party, her massive rallies, her endorsements, and campaigning?
No she didn't! She was the only Republican who actually fought back, while getting stabbed in the back by her own party.
