Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus Unveiled In Maharashtra's Pune

The hydrogen fuel cell uses hydrogen and air to generate electricity, producing only heat and water as tailpipe emissions. The reaction occurs across an electrochemical cell similar to a conventional battery cell, causing energy engines used to propel the vehicle forward.

Union minister of state for science and technology Dr Jitendra Singhsaid that if a diesel bus is compared to a hydrogen bus, it typically emits 100 tons of co2 per annum on long-distance routes, and there are millions of buses across the country, reports The Times of India. Also, a hydrogen fuel cell truck's operational cost is competitively lower than diesel buses which could bring about revolutionary changes across the nation. What Is A Hydrogen Fuel Cell The hydrogen fuel cell uses hydrogen and air to generate electricity, producing only heat and water as tailpipe emissions. The reaction occurs across an electrochemical cell similar to a conventional battery cell, causing energy engines used to propel the vehicle forward. Fuel cells work similarly to conventional batteries found in electric vehicles, but they do not run out of charge as they don't need to be recharged regularly with electricity. Their function is as long as there is a hydrogen supply.

I understand all of that; and, my comment could not have implied otherwise. The first statement in your rebuttal pretty much said the same thing as I said. Batteries do not make electrical power and neither would fuel cells. The pollution sources would merely be moved someplace else.

I've been to pre-1990 China, Shanghai in particular. Does that count?

Hydrogen powered cars are no better at saving energy than battery powered cars. Their usefulness is for different reason. See post #14.

Maharashtra is a Texas size state in India. The 2 biggest cities in Mharashtra are Mumbai & Pune.

Thanks. Learn something new every day.

Why wouldn’t they concentrate on birth control for all? I hate this thought but, maybe sterilize 3/4’s of the population and allow them to live as single adults. In 25 years or so, the population would be halved. .... . So just for this moment I am on the side of Bill Gates. Tomorrow I will feel different, but for tonight I am all in.

The above was tongue in cheek, but this world does need a cleansing. Come Quickly Lord Jesus, amen.

Personally I am pro-life. My wife and I refused amniosythesis test because there was no question of abortion even if baby had downs synmdrome.
But last time I visited India in 1984, the over crowding got to me. I never went back. Instead I sponsored my close relatives to visit United States. In my opinion 1450 million people are too many in land area 1/3 rd of USA. Limiting no.of kids would be good start. But religious people will rebel.

Germans don’t have far to drive.

A lot of Americans don’t either, but I’m not sure what that has to do with how they are producing their hydrogen. The question was what source of energy were they using to produce the hydrogen for the Indian fuel cells. The answer in Germany at least is solar.

I see, sorry. My retort would be, "Shall we give up the view of the ground so that we can cover it it with solar cells?". Also, since Germans don't have far to drive they would not need to stop along the route to recharge.

A drive from Atlanta to Denver would be a pain in the butt with an EV. Yes, I do that drive.

I believe the Indians were discussing inter-city busses and the Germans are using the hydrogen to replace diesel in trains. So, no one is at this time is using hydrogen to drive from Atlanta to Denver. Though if there were hydrogen supplied filling station the drive would be no worse than stopping to put gasoline in your car. It’s not like an 8-hour recharge of a battery.

Hydrogen is not particularly safe when being transferred from one container to another. Are we talking liquid hydrogen or compressed gas?

NASA is not known for its sense of humor; however, a sign at the liquid hydrogen storage facility in Huntsville read, "Liquid Hydrogen. No Smoking. Violators will be vaporized".
