LOS ANGELES, California — The Los Angeles Times reports that billionaire real estate developer Rick Caruso is now losing the race for mayor to Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) because of the Supreme Court’s June decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The Times reports that while political momentum favored Caruso’s challenge in the spring, he lost in the June primary because of Bass’s support from the party machine, and political changes — including abortion — have boosted her prospects since then:

I’d highly doubt any Republican in LA ever leading any race there….
I admit I’m not on the ground there, but I highly doubt it.
Anyone in LA want to weigh in and give an on the ground assessment?
Are things so bad in LA that a big enough segment of their registered democrats are going to vote Republican!
It’s literally a 3 to 1 (actually slightly more) d to r advantage
It’s Libi-fornia. Democrats win always. Until the final end.
All I’ve ever seen the abortion issue do in decades of observation, is get good candidates for public offices defeated by vermin. In my judgment, it is a losing issue for republicans and conservatives.
Well yeah, they’re Democrats.
The Leftist white suburban woman vote does matter, and it will tend to energize them. It will have an effect.
So be it.
Isn’t it amazing how abortion is the only issue that the democrats can run on and suddenly it is the MOST important and ONLY issue? What a coincidence.
Are we supposed to believe that LA voters represent the average American voter? Whatever...
Nothing in that article demonstrated that he’s behind because of abortion.
The real story there is the obvious voter fraud on the Gascon recall.
I think these big city elections are always rigged and stolen. they create the narratives around the rigging so as to support the agenda.
Seems that INGSOC media is picking out stories in NY and CA in order to discuss the abortion narrative. More intellectual dishonesty on their part (which is certainly a given to begin with).
When did a mayor ever have the power or authority to ban abortion?
This story is complete BS.
At the end of the day, aren’t we talking about two Democrats? Is Caruso pro-life?
Abortion is favored only in the fecal gutters of blue cities.
It doesn’t have to be. Voters support some restrictions on second and third trimester abortions. But the right to have an abortion in the first trimester enjoys broad support. If they’d stick to broadly popular positions and stop nominating candidates who insist that women can’t get pregnant form rape or that having a child could be a positive experience for a 10-year-old girl, maybe it would hurt Republicans so much in general elections.
Get used to it. Democrats will use it to keep the house and senate.
Yes. But don’t let the excuse monster be interrupted. They are on a roll justifying the loss with any excuse possible.
And a red state a month ago.
I’m wil,ing to bet that candidates in red areas will WIN because they don’t support abortion!
