The Doobie Brothers aren’t a country band but “Black Water” has a distinct country feel. Helps to have a New Orleans fiddle player in it while singing about Dixieland and a paddlewheel boat under a Mississippi moon.
I will twine, I will mingle my raven black hair
With the roses so red and the lilies so fair,
And the myrtle so bright with its emerald hue,
The pale and the leader and eyes look like blue.
Note how these Stalinist comrades ripped off the melody:
The Sinking of the Rueben James--The Almanac Singers (1942)
John Denver, “Thank God I’m a country boy”
(...city folk drivin in a black limosine....)
How about Steely Dan’s “Pearl of the Quarter”
Where the sailor spends his hard-earned pay
Red beans and rice for a quarter
You can see her almost any day
Singin’ voulez, voulez, voulez vous
(Exquisite pedal steel guitar from Skunk Baxter)

I only like western swing, so Ida Red and San Antonio Rose by Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Hey rose is a color!
