In July of 2021, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said President Joe Biden does not have the executive authority to issue “debt forgiveness,” arguing that such action would be illegal and that it has “to be an act of Congress.”
“People think that the President of the United States has the power for debt forgiveness. He does not. He can postpone. He can delay. But he does not have that power. That has to be an act of Congress,” Pelosi said July 28 at a press conference.
“The President can’t do it. So that’s not even a discussion. Not everybody realizes that. But the President can only postpone, delay, but not forgive,” she added.
She also mentioned how voters would be mad about student loan “forgiveness,”appearing to question whether such a policy would be “fair.”
Pelosi mentioned a scenario where “your child just decided they want to – at this time, not want to go to college, but you’re paying taxes to forgive somebody else’s obligations.”

It doesn’t seem that this free money should have been a Congress decision. I guess it would have been if it wasn’t for the upcoming midterm elections. President Trump couldn’t have gotten away with the crap Jo Jo the Pedophile Clown is pulling. But, when the country doesn’t have a serious unbiased media, this is the kind of commie crap you get.
In all the articles I have seen regarding Biden’s student loan forgiveness, I have not seen a single comment about the legality. Maybe I have missed it, but none of the Republican politicians asked to comment in the articles I saw even raise the point.
The Democrat Party has gone from being merely lawless to believing that its interests are the very metes and bounds in which all law must operate.

It is a purely political stunt. Nothing has changed since Nancy’s statement last year other than the chances of her keeping her job have greatly diminished. The claim of a free money handout months before the ‘22 election is supposed to entice the younger voters. The courts will then overturn the order after the election and the Democrats will run on it as a platform again in ‘24. They control the House, Senate and the White House but haven’t tried to pass it through the legislative process because they know that enough of their own party won’t go along with it. Rather than look like they failed again, they’ll do the blatantly unconstitutional Executive Order and blame the courts when it gets overturned.
