All throughout last week, some five or six Coptic churches in Egypt have “caught fire”— ... the Church of Abu Seifein (named after Saint Mercurius of Caesarea, who is revered by the Copts). At least 41 Christians — 18 of whom were children — were either burned alive, killed by asphyxiation, or
...
Considering that Muslims have torched or bombed hundreds of Coptic churches over the decades in Egypt — and often when churches are packed — it is, of course, difficult to resist that explanation. Moreover, this last week was the “anniversary” of when Muslim Brotherhood sympathizers torched 62 Coptic churches in Egypt in 2013, suggesting that the same elements may have been “commemorating” those events by burning more churches and Christians.
Even so, Egyptian officials, followed by media, Egyptian and Western, were quick to blame “faulty electric wiring” for the fire that killed 41 Christians. As many observers have noted, however, this explanation is suspect if for no other reason than that it was offered up literally minutes after the fire broke out, and, as is well known, it takes a serious, prolonged investigation before such a determination can be made — not minutes.
Here one is reminded of the torching of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, a nation which, not unlike Egypt, has also witnessed countless attacks on churches. In the days before the Notre Dame fire, for example, it was revealed that, on average, two churches a day were attacked in France — a country that holds one of Europe’s largest Muslim populations — .. the torching of Notre Dame was immediately, before any serious investigations had been conducted, attributed to “faulty wiring.”

sharia stipulations, have made it next to impossible for Christians not only to build but to repair churches.

YES, THE MUSLIMS HAVE ‘FAULTY WIRING’ IN THEIR BRAINS!....................
That’s what they get for having an electrician named Basil.
No one there, from any religion, believes those churches burnt up due to faulty wiring, but the dhimnitude is forced to go along with the pantomime of civility for now.
Worming one’s way into an infidel’s confidences only to betray and slaughter them traces back to the prophet of Islam, Muhammad.
Once, when a Jewish poet, Ka‘b ibn Ashraf, offended Muhammad, the prophet exclaimed: “Who will kill this man who has hurt Allah and his prophet?” A young Muslim named Ibn Maslama volunteered on the condition that, to get close enough to Ka‘b to assassinate him, he be allowed to deceive the poet.
The prophet agreed. Ibn Maslama went to Ka‘b feigning friendship; the poet trusted his sincerity and took him into his confidence. Soon thereafter, the Muslim youth returned with a friend, and, while the trusting poet’s guard was down, they beheaded him.
Volunteer labor isn’t always up to standards.
An underreported but fatal moslem attack on a symbolically important church recently took place in Syria.
During an inauguration celebration on Sunday, July 24, 2022, an Islamic terror group fired rockets at a newly constructed church, the Hagia Sophia, in the predominantly -Greek Orthodox city of al-Suqaylabiyah, Syria.
Hagia Sophia in Constantinople— was originally built, and for a millennium functioned, as a Christian cathedral— then moslems stole / created another victory mosque... like Obama wanted to do after 9/11 in NYC.

Almost exactly what I was going to say.
Many OLD churches/structures in general have very old wiring.
For example, when Mrs Woodbutcher and I started attending St. Maries Roman Catholic church in Manchester, NH we were given a tour of the entire property. It opened in 1895. The original church built in 1865 had burned down.
The tour included the organ loft. The ceiling above the bellows was covered with wires. Cloth covered wires. The large organ tubes were made out of wood. The first thing I thought was this looks like an electrical fire waiting to happen. there was 100 year old seasoned wood exposed everywhere. Basically, nothing that would even be close to today’s basic electrical building codes. All it takes is one rodent to chew on those wires and cause a short/fire.
I can’t imagine what the wiring may be like in 200-1000 year old buildings. It would all probably be similar because electrical wiring was a 20th century invention.
You bring up many good points.
This was within the USA. The conditions are likely even more neglected in the older countries, where the general job economy stays low.
Maybe the church you visited will be declared a National Landmark and then receive enough money to update the wiring and plumbing. Out here in Ca., it would also need to be earthquake proofed with new structures.

Torching Christians in their churches predates Islam.

“20,000 Martyrs burned in Nicomedia”
Commemorated by new calendar Orthorox on December 28.
In Muslim countries, churches have to get approval for any upgrades (including electrical) or remodeling. That approval is almost never granted.
