Due to the alleged mass refusal of Russian Airborne Forces (VDV) officers to participate in combat in Ukraine, Russian paratrooper command has begun trying to hire contractors to fill the vacant positions, but even they do not seem keen to fight, Ukrainian Intelligence said in a statement Saturday.
Russia has been increasingly using contracted professionals - contraktniki in Russian - to replace conscripts in elite military units.
After severe losses suffered by the Russian paratroopers as a result of clashes with Ukraine's army, the command of the airborne troops is attempting to restore the morale and combat capability of the units, the statement explained.

Things have gone badly for Russia’s airborne troops from the beginning of the war. The Ukrainians downed a transport plane during the first week of combat trying to land killing instantly ~180 of their best troops. Morale suffered immediately among their comrades and has never recovered.
The Putin cult will be along shortly with their twisted script...lol
Russia’s VDV Paratrooper Force: A Paper Tiger Exposed In Ukraine?
Some here think Russia is winning. The Ukes simply have more motivation. Me, I’d wanna go home if I was Putins cannon fodder.
Hush, Biden Puffer
Then there’s Russian public opinion. People will follow their leadership like sheep. There aren’t enough Gold Star moms, at least not yet. The soldiers need to be introduced to the concept of fragging.
During the first hour of the invasion the over-all Russian commander was killed, leaving no one in command for many critical hours.
Worse, the several hundred AB troops landed on top of 4,000-5,000 Ukraine National Guard troops at both airports they were trying to capture.
These AB troops were, according to Russian sources, the best of the best, the cream of the crop. Mostly wiped out.
All the units have now been returned to the Front, with the 31st AB stationed somewhere west of Donetsk.
Yeah I don’t buy everything that’s posted here or on the ‘net’.
Somewhere though the truth lies.
The Russian gov’t is evil
The Ukrainian gov’t is evil
FACTS...
What does it matter. All the Russian planes were shot down three weeks into this. Well, half were shot down, the others were destroyed on the ground. Remember, the Russians ran out of aviation fuel one week in. Just another shovel full.
That’s right!
I heard that all of the AK-74’s the Russian military has are all rusted over too and all they have left to use are Mosin-Nagants with 3 rounds of ammo per soldier. Pretty tough to be a Russian trooper these days!

You misunderstand the overall situation
Evil is irrelevant
Oh sure, morality shouldn’t exist right?
Let me make it easy for you to understand:
There are no good guys in that war.
For sure. I’m actually enjoying the daily propaganda roll out. This paratrooper story rang a bell immediately. Lots of other examples because frankly there hasn’t been anything new in months.
“Hush, Biden Puffer”
Touché!
If everybody on this dang forum would be honest (let’s try?), we can say that Russia will eventually win. It’s pretty obvious.
That said, I do also enjoy the belly full of laughs stating that a nation with no air force and a Navy that would make the Spanish Armada cringe might have a chance here.
Regardless, it’ll be a long and prolonged nasty war.
Airborne troops are often the very best trained and best conditioned soldiers in any military. They in WW II were used as shock troops by both sides. The results were very high casualties ( Germans on Crete, Americans at Normandy, British at Market Garden, Americans in Vietnam) The Russian generals apparently learned little from these battles. Hopefully our own battleship admirals and cavalry generals who patrol the halls of the Pentagon will appreciate how the new technologies have made traditional tactics and weapon systems obsolete and lethal. However very much doubt the Russian generals are not the only ones stuck in the past.
The biggest failing was the Russian command assumption it would be a cake walk because the Ukraine troops would run away, the the civilian population would not fight, that the civilians would either welcome them or be apathetic.
How can troops “refuse to fight”?
Kind of goes against most military discipline.
