During the Overtime segment of Friday’s broadcast of “Real Time,” host Bill Maher said that some of the increased funding for the IRS in the Inflation Reduction Act will be used to audit middle-class taxpayers.
While discussing Washington Post columnist, CNN Contributor, and “PBS NewsHour” Special Correspondent Catherine Rampell’s recent tour of an IRS facility and the problems the agency has with processing tax returns due to outdated technology, Maher said, “This bill that Biden signed this week has $80 billion…that’s what it’s for, right? It’s $80 billion to the IRS. Now, of course, the Republicans are saying, you’re going to use this money to blah, blah, blah, blah.”

For a hundred years America worked just fine without the income tax. That amendment was a cancerous addition to the Constitution. It gave birth to a rapacious federal government that has broken most of the restraints the Constitution had provided. That and a few other Amendments need to be repealed and that will never happen through Congress. Only article V has a chance of overturning this madness and only cowardice and fools are preventing this cure from being used.

The rich like Maher have ways of hiding their wealth from the IRS thru “Foundations” and phony companies in Grand Cayman and Switzerland.
This is all going to target Conservatives independent of income.

“SOME” is not a technical term. It can mean between 1% and 99%. Look for 99% of new IRS audits to be against the middle class.

Yes, I did some quick math, and can figure that all these new agents will be able to review and cboose for audit many more tax returns than are audited now.
Do some quick math, and assume they work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and you will see what I mean. Then overlay that with their mission to recover additional tax revenue through audits, and it’s a recipe for distress for all of us.

It would be like an airline doubling the number of pilots without buying any new aircraft or adding new ground crew.
Makes one wonder if the new IRS agents aren't going to be tasked with audits, but something else. Something that requires guns and ammo...not computers.
