Rosary Sales Surge After ‘The Atlantic’ Calls Rosary ‘An Extremist Symbol’

The Atlantic's hit-piece on Catholicism and the rosary has actually increased rosary sales. in Christianity, Culture, News, Politics Rosary Sales Surge After ‘The Atlantic’ Calls Rosary ‘An Extremist Symbol’

Three online shops have reported a massive surge in the sales of rosaries following The Atlantic, a massive mainstream media outlet, publishing a hit-piece on the rosary, labeling it a sign of extremism. Rosary vendors told Catholic News Agency that their sales and/or social media followings have boomed, probably to the spite of The Atlantic.

As National File previously reported, Daniel Panneton wrote an article in The Atlantic which called the Catholic rosary a “symbol” of religious radicalism.

The Atlantic piece, titled “How the Rosary Became an Extremist Symbol”, describes in a negative light, the rise of Catholic media groups or figures who “actively” campaign “against LGBTQ acceptance in the Church,” and other progressive issues in American society.

Panneton explained that these traditional Catholics on social media were radical because of so-called “extremist homophobic and transphobic “groomer” discourse.”

The far-Left Atlantic also mocked the idea of “rosary-branded events.” Panneton wrote, “On this extremist fringe, rosary beads have been woven into a conspiratorial politics and absolutist gun culture. These armed radical traditionalists have taken up a spiritual notion that the rosary can be a weapon in the fight against evil and turned it into something dangerously literal.

The basic beliefs of Catholicism are evidence of “extremism” amongst politically active Catholics, according to Panneton.

The author hit back on traditional views of masculinity, grounded in the Catholic faith. “The militarism also glorifies a warrior mentality and notions of manliness and male strength. This conflation of the masculine and the military is rooted in wider anxieties about Catholic manhood.”

“But among radical-traditional Catholic men, such concerns take an extremist turn, rooted in fantasies of violently defending one’s family and church from marauders,” he added.

After attacking the Catholic religion’s views on homosexuality, transgender issues, pedophilia, and masculinity, the Atlantic went on to suggest the Church’s pro-life advocacy tied them to far-right extremism.

“The convergence within Christian nationalism is cemented in common causes such as hostility toward abortion-rights advocates,” Panneton claimed.

Fr. Pius Pietrzyk, OP, a Dominican priest of the Province of St. Joseph, told Catholic News Agency that the Atlantic piece was “classic misdirection.”

“The author takes what are basic Catholic positions on the nature of the Church, Christian morality, and the like, and posit that they are somehow ‘extremist.’ This is classic misdirection.”

CatholicVote, a Catholic super PAC and advocacy group, slammed the Atlantic for publishing “an attack on any religion’s sacred objects.”

How things have changed - and for the worse...

Roserys were issued on request by the Army in WW1 and 2.

Now, if you are a Christain the military - you have a target on your back.

So glad I retired when I did - *no way* would I recommend a military career to anyone today.

The label “extremist” is used to indicate that their rights are forfeit, and the government has permission to hurt them. Consequently, even the majority of Americans is “extremist” about several issues.

The Rosary is an extremist symbol?! The atheists won’t be satisfied until they have driven religion - except islam apparently, I mean they would never say that any aspect or dogma of the moon-god worshipping cult is extremist - is driven underground. And personally I do not want to live in a atheistic society.

We (spouse and I) considered making one with different beads and symbols. We would use Protestant creeds and verses we want to memorize to fill it up.

This gives a push to do just that.

I am not a Catholic. I respect the many who are strongly conservative, pro-family and pro-life. They are not to blame for the failure of courage by leaders (and members) who let their local churches censor anything anti-Dem and hope that by meekly cowering they will so please Biden and Pelosi and the people in the pews who vote Democrat, that the leaders in DC will permit them to go on cowering in peace.

When there was talk (never action) that the council of bishops might scold Biden and Pelosi implicitly by a condemnation of such outright sinning con artists from gaining votes and status by saying “I am a devout Catholic” while strongly enabling and funding abortions-—a mortal sin—some Dem Party operatives openly said they would see that the Church’s non-profit shield would be taken away as punishment because they went over the line of church and state. A threat!

By the way, one excuse was maybe Biden and Pelosi could only be condemned if they actively participated in the performance of an abortion themselves. Incredible.

And they gave up to the Dems and said only a few nondescript
mumblings, letting Biden and Pelosi off the hook. Followed by Roe and the literal violence and destruction of pro-life places by the pro-abortion Dems.

The Left is out to destroy religions.

Their Stalin,Mao and others knew that Communists need to take away the people’s faith and family cohesiveness in order to totally dominate them and enslave them. The State is their replacement for God and the sooner the wimpy compromising element of the religious faiths understand that, the better.

Breaking news! FBI demands rosary vendors turn over names and addresses of purchasers!

Will the corrupt FBI pay them a visit in their homes and steal their passports? Will nun convents be raided at 4 AM?

To make it worse, for many years she attended a catholic church on Rosaryville Road...

Hi.

I don’t usually pray the Rosary, but will this Sunday.

Not to piss off my Protestant brethren, but to piss off the “Alantic,” and their readers.

Exactly. Remove religion from society and replace it with worship of the state. How did that work out for the USSR?

Welp, that makes about 2 million American men in the Knights of Columbus “extremists”. The majority (if not all) Councils pray the Rosary monthly.

Not to mention others that hang their Rosary from the rear-view mirror of their car.

There is no virtue in the pursuit of secularism, and there is no extremism in the pursuit of heavenly assistance. (To paraphrase the late, great Barry Goldwater).
