Germany is facing a complete collapse of its power grid this winter due to the soaring demand for electric heaters amid growing fears gas supplies could be cut off.
Germans are now panic buying electric heaters after firewood supplies and stoves sold out, a desperate backup option to survive the plummeting winter temperatures.
But according to the boss of the Stadtwerke Wiesbaden Netz utility company, Peter Lautz, the sheer amount of citizens using electric heaters would put enormous strain on the country’s electricity grid.
Electric heaters use between 1,000 and 3,000 watts of energy, so when all are plugged in simultaneously, it could cause a massive overload and cause the grid to collapse.
“If everyone switched on a fan heater at home, it would mean that we would have to almost double the existing network structure on every street,” said Lautz.
Germans have bought 600,000 electric heaters already in 2022, which is a 35 percent increase from usual numbers, and that figure is likely to rise as temperatures drop.

I wonder how many residences still have workable fireplaces. I am assuming Germany still has working coal mines in the Ruhr so perhaps the government will be forced to distribute coal for heating.
Too bad the same IRA (not to be confused with the investing version of an IRA) creates a new Methane Reduction Panel to add fees to things like drilling for natural gas and using natural gas (you know to make power in the natural-gas plants your power company has to use because the govt made them shut down some coal plants).
Germans, as with most of Europe, better start getting used to multiple blankets, coats, and rubbing their hands together. Reap what thou hast sown. Karma is real, as well.
So, Germany, how does it feel going “Green?”
I’m surprised to see that special exemptions aren’t required for wood stoves.
I can’t believe importing a bunch of Turks and putting a woman in charge didn’t work out well.
I think the two wars killed a lot of their stronger and more intelligent men.
Coming to a U.S.A. town near you as energy prices skyrocket this Winter.
OK, do the math here. “Germans have bought 600,000 electric heaters already in 2022”
600,000 heaters times at even 2,000 watts is only 12 Megawatts.
THAT would collapse the grid??? Ahem ...
Regular Germans are paying the price of the politicians for whom they voted supporting Ukraine in this stupid gamble for WWIII.
Who could of foreseen this a twenty years ago when they decided to totally eliminate Nuclear Power from their electric power generation mix?
This is a total surprize!
And yet, over here, they’re wanting tens of millions of us to switch to electric cars.
Not much forest in Germany
They wouldn’t have this problem if everyone bought an electric vehicle
““If everyone switched on a fan heater at home, it would mean that we would have to almost double the existing network structure on every street,” said Lautz.”
Just wait until all your cars are electric!
Oh! Did we tell you that we need to totally eliminate gasoline powered cars within ten years?
Don’t worry about it
Everything will work out fine.
“Germany Faces Power Grid Collapse as Demand for Electric Heaters Soar..”
Small price to pay for “going green” the last 20 years. These morons will be begging for “global warming” in January.
or when they decided to ban fracking, not build LNG terminals, not build more storage capacity for LNG, shut down coal mines and shut down coal burning power plants.
I am just shocked to hear wind and solar are not providing enough energy to replace the power plants they used to use.
Yeah, well....there were three operational chimneys built into this house in the 1965 timeframe that I live in (here in Germany). Back when renovation took place in 2009...two were decommissioned for electrical wiring and satellite cable to run to the three apartments in the building. The single chimney left was for the natural gas furnace in the basement to use.
I would imagine that 70-percent of the homes in the village (out of 400)...went this way in the past 20 years.
